Christmas party nibbles

10 Christmas Day Nibbles Ideas

Posted on July 8, 2025April 14, 2026 By Becky

Let’s be honest, Christmas dinner gets all the glory, but you know what really keeps the festive spirit alive while the turkey’s basting and the champagne’s popping? Yep, it’s the nibbles. Whether you call them party snacks, picky bits, finger food, or canapé heaven, Christmas Day nibbles are the true unsung heroes of the festive feast, and also ideal for Boxing Day hosting.

In our house, the nibbles tray starts coming out around 11am, along with the Bucks Fizz, and doesn’t disappear until someone shuffles off to bed, cradling the last mince pie like a prize. If that sounds familiar- or like a vibe you’d love to recreate – you’re in the right place!

Here are 10 delicious, easy Christmas nibbles ideas that are perfect for grazing, mingling, and keeping hunger at bay until the big meal. Bonus: they also double as fab finger food for a Xmas party, so whether you’re hosting the in-laws or your mates from uni, you’re covered.

1. Mini Pigs in Blankets with Honey Mustard Dip

  • 12 rashers streaky bacon / thin-cut bacon

  • 2 tbsp honey / 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard / 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

Method:

  1. Cut each bacon rasher in half and wrap around a sausage.

  2. Pop onto a baking tray, seam side down.

  3. Bake at 200°C / 400°F for 20–25 minutes until crispy.

  4. Mix honey and mustard for a sweet little dip.

These are the first to vanish at any party. Serve with cocktail sticks and a Christmassy napkin, and watch them go!

cranberry brie bites

FAQs: Christmas Nibbles

What are the best make-ahead Christmas Day nibbles?
You can prep most of these the day before! Try making stuffing balls, pinwheels, or cheesy stars ahead of time and just bake them on the day. Even smoked salmon blinis can be assembled an hour before serving.

What’s the easiest finger food for a Xmas party?
Mini Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, and sausage skewers are always a hit and take very little effort. They’re the ultimate easy Christmas nibbles that please a crowd.

Can I make vegetarian Christmas nibbles?
Absolutely! Try the Caprese skewers, cheesy pastry stars, or cranberry and brie bites with veggie puff pastry. You could also do veggie stuffing balls and serve with a cranberry dip.

What dips go well with party nibbles?
Honey mustard, cranberry sauce, sour cream & chive, hummus, or a creamy garlic dip are all fab. A simple balsamic glaze can elevate almost anything.

How many nibbles per person for a party?
A good rule of thumb is 6–8 nibbles per person per hour. If your Christmas Day nibbles are before dinner, stick to 4–6 per person. For a full buffet or party spread, aim higher.

So there you have it – 10 Christmas Day nibbles ideas that are festive, flavourful, and fabulously easy. Whether you’re feeding picky eaters, party people, or posh Aunt Judith, there’s something here for everyone.
