  1. The favourite in our house is Shepherds Pie – never lasts very long. Have to have mine with Hendersons Relish as I am a Yorkshire girl 🙂

  2. I love cooking for me or family stews because you can keep changing them with different ingredients 🙂

  3. My favorite is either a mexican chicken casserole full of beans and spices, or a classic roast dinner with all the trimmings!

  4. I love cooking vegetarian chilli for my husband and I. I make a tamer version for the children who need lots of greek yoghurt to tone it down still!

  5. The problem is we all like different things! I always find I’m cooking at least two different meals each evening. Although one thing we all like is a chinese stir fry with chicken 🙂

  6. I have a recipe for a lightly curry flavour chicken pie in puff pastry that I have used for years and is always met with great appreciation

  7. I love cooking stir fries for my family, because they are healthy, delicious and there is so much variety

  8. Our favourite family meal is Chilli con Carne. I’ve even been using Quorn mince recently to try and make it a bit healthier and I’ve had no complaints!

  9. My favourites constantly switch as I learn new recipes – but currently it has to be chicken katsu curry ! so yummy

  10. My family’s favorite is a traditional sunday roast with all the trimmings and lasagne is the favourite midweek dinner

  11. Probably lasagne. Although, we have been eating a lot of tacos recently, and they are great.

  12. I love a Sunday Roast but the effort involved in making it probably means my favourite to prepare is Spaghetti bolognaise – simple, quick and satisfying.

  13. I love to cook a Chicken and Tomato curry. It’s a Ken Hom recipe which I’ve been using for years and it always goes down a treat.

  14. I love to cook a roast dinner of either beef, pork, lamb or chicken with lots of vegetables, thick gravy and crispy yorkshire puddings. My family clean their plates every time.

  15. Scientific Mashed Potato

On leaving home for the first time I was keen to speed up the time taken to make mashed potato, it was better tasting and healthier than the instant mashed potato of the time, but took too long. I decided to graph the length of time that different sizes of raw potato took to cook; as the surface area of the potato was increased the smaller the pieces of potato were, and this should lead to faster cooking times. A faster cooking time would mean that more flavour would be kept. I found that the ideal size of raw potato was one cubic centimetre, any bigger and the potato would take longer to cook, any smaller and the potato would break up, and taste of water. Professional chefs in the UK have done taste tests, and found that this is the best way of boiling potatoes.

Next came a taste test to see if adding water to the potato pan would make any difference to the final result. I found it unlikely that any salt in the water would penetrate a raw potato because they are so hard. And I was proven right. Why waste salt?

What you add to the mashed potato to taste is a matter of preference, but the science has been done.

  16. Spaghetti and meatballs as it’s the only dish we all eat. Usually it’s three different dishes to make everyone happy!

  17. A roast dinner with all the trimmings, simply because everyone enjoys it, even the fussy eater! I do love baking for my family though and making something from scratch like a lasagne or curry makes me happy too.

  18. My favourite family dish is a big Sunday roast,as long as there are, potatoes (mashed),roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy then everyone is happy x

  19. Our family favourite is Potato Cheese cook and mash some potatoes, mash them with some cheese added then in a casserole dish put in a tin of already heated baked beans put the mash on top then sprinkle a bit of cheese, place under the grill until golden brown its really yummy.

  20. Ufortunately there isnt much that my family all agree on taste wise. I cant really go wrong with a pasta based dish though, I just serve my 4 year olds before mixing in rocket and spices for us.

  21. Moroccan Minced Pork, lovely flavours and something different from Spaghetti Bolognese etc. Lovely with plain boiled rice.

  22. I love to cook a roast dinner or for something simple – smoked salmon creamy tagliatelle

  23. It would be a traditional roast dinner, with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, mash potatoes, baby carrots and lashings of gravy x

  24. A roast, with all the trimmings especially nice when the children and grandchildren are there to share it with us 🙂

  25. I like making shepherd’s pie as I can freeze ahead, but they like risotto the best, so it’s a weekly event.

  26. A roast chicken….although it takes 2 hrs to get it all done & it’s wolfed down in under 5 minutes!

  27. I love baking for family and friends, whether it is cakes, biscuits, buns or bread. I pour my love into each one as it is to bless those that I give them too – something money cannot buy.
