Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream

Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream Review: Is This £21 Body Cream Worth the Hype?

Posted on September 18, 2025January 9, 2026 By Becky

As a mum of three living in South East London, I’m always on the hunt for skincare that actually works without breaking the bank. When Sol de Janeiro’s Bom Dia Bright Cream was introduced to me through my young teen daughter, I knew I had to give it a proper test. Here’s my honest review after using it for two months straight over the summer.

Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream at a Glance

Product: Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream

Size: 240ml (also available in 75ml)

Price: Around 21 GBP for the full size

Best for: Dull or uneven skin tone, dry skin, rough texture

Key ingredients: Fruit AHAs, Vitamin C Ester, Cupuacu Butter

Scent: Cheirosa 40 – black amber plum, vanilla woods, jasmine

Texture: Rich but fast-absorbing, not greasy

Results timeline: Softer skin within days, visible brightening after 2-3 weeks

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Right, let’s get straight into this because I have opinions about this cream, and they’re mostly very good ones! I’ve been using Sol de Janeiro’s Bom Dia Bright Cream for about two months now, using it as part of my beauty routine.

What Does the Bom Dia Bright Cream Actually Do?

The Bom Dia Bright Cream (which translates to “Good Morning” in Portuguese) is essentially a luxurious body moisturiser with some serious skincare benefits thrown in. It’s designed to:

  • Brighten and even out skin tone using fruit-derived AHAs and Vitamin C
  • Deeply hydrate with cupuaçu butter (a Brazilian superfruit butter)
  • Gently exfoliate to smooth rough texture
  • Improve skin radiance for that coveted Brazilian glow

Think of it as your regular body moisturiser’s much more accomplished older sister – the one who went to university, speaks three languages, and somehow still manages to look effortlessly gorgeous.

My Experience: The Good, The Great, and The “Why Is This So Expensive?”

First Impressions

The packaging immediately screams luxury. That gorgeous coral-pink tube with gold accents? It’s giving expensive spa vibes, and I’m absolutely here for it. The cream itself is this beautiful peachy-pink colour that feels indulgent before you’ve even applied it.

The Scent

Can we talk about this scent please? Because honestly, it’s incredible. Sol de Janeiro describes it as their Cheirosa ’40 fragrance, and it’s a complex blend of:

  • Top notes: Black amber plum and crème de cassis
  • Middle notes: Jasmine blooms and Brazilian florals
  • Base notes: Vanilla woods and warm musk

Now, I’m usually quite sensitive to floral scents (they can trigger headaches), but this leans heavily into the warm, gourmand notes. It’s like vanilla custard had a sophisticated night out with some expensive perfume. My husband Adam even commented on how lovely it smells when I use it in the evenings after using the Bom Dia Bright body wash, which I have also reviewed.

Texture and Application

The cream has this gorgeous buttery texture that’s rich without being greasy. It spreads easily and absorbs surprisingly quickly for something so luxurious feeling. I’ve been using it all over – arms, legs, décolletage – and it never leaves that sticky film some body creams can.

One thing I love is that it doesn’t interfere with my clothes. I can apply it in the morning and get dressed immediately without worrying about transferring product onto my outfit (crucial when you’re rushing to get three kids ready for school!).

The Results: Two Months In

Week 1-2: Immediate hydration improvement. My skin felt softer and looked more radiant.

Week 3-4: Started noticing my skin tone looking more even, particularly on my arms where I have some sun damage from years of not being as diligent with SPF as I should have been.

Month 2: Definite improvement in skin texture. Areas that were a bit rough (hello, elbows!) are noticeably smoother.

I have to say, the brightening claims aren’t just marketing fluff. My skin genuinely looks more radiant and even-toned. It’s not a dramatic transformation, but it’s definitely noticeable enough that I’ve had a few people comment on how healthy my skin looks.

Is Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream Good for Your Face?

This is a question I get asked a lot, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it for facial use. Here’s why:

The formula is designed for body skin, not facial skin. Our faces are more delicate and have different needs. Plus, at £21 for 240ml, there are much more targeted and cost-effective facial skincare options available. Other Sol products that you can use on your face include the lovely Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Kiss Cupuaçu Lip Butter.

The AHAs might be too strong. While gentle exfoliation is great for body skin, your face might be more sensitive to the fruit acids in this formula.

It’s quite rich. If you’re prone to breakouts or have oily facial skin, this could be too heavy and potentially pore-clogging.

Stick to using this gorgeous cream on your body and invest in a proper facial moisturiser instead. Trust me on this one!

Which Sol de Janeiro Cream is Best for Firming?

If firming is your main concern, you’ll actually want to look at Sol de Janeiro’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream rather than the Bom Dia. The Bum Bum cream contains caffeine-rich guaraná, which is specifically formulated to target skin firmness and smooth the appearance of cellulite. The Sol Beija Flor Elasti-Cream is also great for older skin if you’re looking for something firming.

However, if you’re after an all-rounder that offers some firming benefits alongside brightening and hydration, the Bom Dia is brilliant. The fruit AHAs help support collagen and elastin production, which can contribute to firmer-looking skin over time.

I actually reviewed the Bum Bum Cream a while back if you want to compare the two!

Ingredients Breakdown: What Makes This Cream Special?

When it comes to this cream, the ingredient list is actually quite impressive:

Star Ingredients

Fruit Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (Mango and Banana Derived) These natural exfoliants gently slough away dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath. They also help support collagen production, which is why your skin feels firmer over time.

Vitamin C Ester A stable, fast-absorbing form of Vitamin C that provides antioxidant protection and helps brighten skin. It’s gentler than pure Vitamin C, making it perfect for daily use.

Cupuaçu Butter This Brazilian superfruit butter is incredibly nourishing, packed with fatty acids that help lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. It’s like shea butter’s more exotic cousin.

The Supporting Cast

The cream also contains coconut oil (my fave!) for additional moisture, glycerin for hydration, and various plant extracts that add to the overall skin-conditioning effects.

How to Use Bom Dia Bright Cream (And When!)

Daily Use: You can use this morning or evening, or both if you’re feeling fancy. I personally use it in the evening as part of my wind-down routine.

Application: Apply to clean, dry skin using circular motions. Pay extra attention to areas that tend to be rougher like elbows, knees, and heels.

Pro Tip: Because of the AHAs, this cream can make your skin more sensitive to sun. Always use SPF during the day, especially if you’re using it in your morning routine.

Target Areas: It’s particularly good for areas where you might get ingrown hairs (legs after shaving) or rough, bumpy skin on arms or thighs.

Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream

The Price Point: Is It Worth £21?

Let’s address the elephant in the room – this cream is not cheap. At £21 for 240ml, it’s definitely a premium purchase. But here’s my take on whether it’s worth it:

Yes, if you:

  • Love luxurious skincare experiences
  • Want visible results from your body care
  • Appreciate beautiful, complex fragrances
  • See skincare as self-care rather than just maintenance

Maybe not, if you:

  • Prefer unscented products
  • Are on a tight beauty budget and happy to use other dupes (of which there are plenty!)
  • Only want basic hydration from your body cream

For context, this works out to about 9p per ml, which puts it in the same category as other premium body care brands. A little goes a long way, so the 240ml tube lasts about 2-3 months with daily use.

Is Bom Dia Bright Cream Still Worth It in 2026?

I first reviewed this cream back in September 2025, and I have been using it on and off ever since. So does it still deserve a spot in your bathroom cabinet heading into 2026? In short, yes.

The formula has stayed consistent, the results are still there, and honestly, I have yet to find anything at a similar price point that gives me the same brightening effect. My elbows and knees remain perpetually grateful.

What has changed is the availability. You can now pick this up from more UK retailers than before, including Boots, Space NK, and Cult Beauty, which means you can often catch it in sales or collect points. If you are strategic about when you buy, that 21 GBP price tag becomes a lot more manageable.

The one thing I would say is that if you tried it before and found the scent too strong, that has not changed. But if you loved it then, you will still love it now.

Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream

How Does It Compare to Other Sol de Janeiro Creams?

I’ve tried a lot of the Sol de Janeiro range now, and here’s how the Bom Dia stacks up:

vs. Brazilian Bum Bum Cream:

  • Bom Dia is lighter and absorbs faster
  • Bum Bum has stronger firming properties
  • Bom Dia has better brightening effects
  • Both have gorgeous but different scents

vs. Delícia Drench Body Butter:

  • Delícia Drench is richer and more moisturising
  • Bom Dia has active ingredients for skin improvement
  • Bom Dia is better for combination skin types

Sol de Janeiro Body Cream Comparison

Product Best For Key Benefit Texture
Bom Dia Bright Cream Dull or uneven skin Brightening and smoothing Rich but absorbs quickly
Brazilian Bum Bum Cream Firming and smoothing Tightening with caffeine Medium weight
Beija Flor Elasti-Cream Mature or crepey skin Elasticity and deep moisture Very rich
Delicia Drench Body Butter Very dry skin Intense hydration Thick and buttery

Who Should Buy This?

Perfect for you if:

  • You have dull, uneven skin tone
  • You love rich, gourmand fragrances
  • You want your body care to do more than just moisturise
  • You enjoy a bit of luxury in your routine
  • You have normal to dry skin

Skip it if:

  • You’re sensitive to fragrance
  • You prefer lightweight, quick-absorbing formulas
  • You’re on a tight budget
  • You only care about basic hydration

Common Mistakes to Avoid With Bom Dia Bright Cream

Using it on your face. I know it is tempting because the ingredients sound so good, but this formula is designed for body skin. Your face needs something more targeted, and this is simply too rich for most facial skin types.

Skipping SPF afterwards. The AHAs in this cream make your skin more sensitive to the sun. If you use it in your morning routine, you absolutely need to follow up with sun protection, even on a grey London day.

Expecting overnight miracles. The brightening effect is real, but it takes time. Give it at least two to three weeks of consistent use before you judge whether it is working for you.

Applying to damp skin. Unlike some body oils, this cream works best on dry skin. Apply after you have properly towelled off for the best absorption.

Using too much. A little goes a long way with this one. Start with a small amount and add more if needed. Your tube will last much longer, and you will avoid that slightly sticky feeling.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream

Can I use Bom Dia Bright Cream on sensitive skin?

The formula contains fruit AHAs which can cause irritation for very sensitive skin types. I would recommend doing a patch test on your inner arm first and starting with every other day use. If your skin tolerates it well, you can build up to daily application.

Will Bom Dia Bright Cream help with stretch marks?

While it is not specifically formulated for stretch marks, the combination of deep hydration and gentle exfoliation can help improve the appearance of stretch marks over time. For targeted stretch mark treatment, you may want to pair it with a dedicated product.

How long does one tube of Bom Dia Bright Cream last?

With daily use on arms, legs, and torso, the 240ml tube typically lasts around two to three months. If you are using it more sparingly or just on specific areas, it will stretch further.

Is Bom Dia Bright Cream safe to use during pregnancy?

The fruit AHAs in this formula are generally considered safe during pregnancy, but I would always recommend checking with your midwife or GP first. Every pregnancy is different, and it is always better to be cautious.

Does Bom Dia Bright Cream help with keratosis pilaris?

Yes, the gentle exfoliation from the AHAs can help smooth those bumpy patches associated with keratosis pilaris. I have found that using the Bom Dia body wash alongside the cream gives even better results for KP.

What is the difference between Bom Dia Bright and Brazilian Bum Bum Cream?

Bom Dia Bright focuses on brightening and evening skin tone with Vitamin C and AHAs. Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is more about firming and tightening with caffeine from guarana. If dullness is your main concern, go for Bom Dia. If firmness is the priority, Bum Bum is your best bet.

Final Verdict: Is Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream Worth Buying?

After using this cream consistently since September 2025, my view has not changed. The Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Cream is a genuinely lovely product that delivers on its brightening and smoothing promises.

Is it essential? No, of course not. But it has become one of those small luxuries in my routine that makes a real difference, both to how my skin looks and to how I feel when I use it. That scent alone is enough to make a harried school run morning feel slightly more civilised.

The price will not suit everyone, and I completely understand that. But if you are looking for a body cream that does more than just moisturise, and you appreciate a product that feels as good as it performs, this one is worth the investment.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Still docking that star for the price, but everything else about this cream has earned its place in my bathroom cabinet.

If you want to test the waters before committing, the 75ml size at around 12 GBP is a sensible place to start. And keep an eye on Space NK and Boots sales, because this does get discounted from time to time.
