Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Cheirosa 40 Perfume Mist

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 40 Perfume Mist Review

Posted on September 19, 2025October 8, 2025 By Becky

Key Takeaways:

  • Scent Profile: Rich floral-gourmand with black amber plum, jasmine, and vanilla woods
  • Best For: Adults seeking a sophisticated, warm floral fragrance for day or evening
  • Longevity: 4-7 hours on skin, longer on clothes and hair
  • Season: Perfect year-round but particularly stunning in cooler months
  • Value: £24 for 90ml makes it accessible luxury with excellent projection
  • Verdict: The most elegant and grown-up scent in the Sol de Janeiro collection

I’m on a roll here with my Sol de Janeiro product reviews at the moment! Today I’m going to take a look at Sol de Janeiro’s Cheirosa 40. As someone who’s been through more body mists than I care to count (occupational hazard of being a lifestyle blogger with kids who nick my beauty products), I can tell you that this one hits different. And I mean that in the absolute best way possible.

I’ve been testing Cheirosa 40 for months now, taking it everywhere from school runs, to business meetings, to date nights with Adam, and I’m ready to share my thoughts. This isn’t just another sweet, beachy Sol de Janeiro scent – it’s something far more sophisticated and, dare I say it, grown-up.

What Does Cheirosa 40 Actually Smell Like?

Let me paint you a picture. Imagine you’re getting ready for the most glamorous evening out – maybe a swanky cocktail party or Rio’s legendary Carnival Ball (which is exactly what Sol de Janeiro had in mind). That’s the vibe Cheirosa 40 gives off from the very first spritz.

The opening hits you with this gorgeous black amber plum note that’s simultaneously juicy and sophisticated. It’s not your typical fruity-sweet start – there’s something almost wine-like about it, with a hint of crème de cassis that adds this lovely boozy depth. Honestly, it makes me think of the most expensive plum jam you’d find at a posh deli.

The heart is where the magic happens. Brazilian orchid and jasmine blooms create this stunning floral bouquet that’s never cloying or overpowering. The jasmine especially is gorgeous – it’s that proper, expensive-smelling jasmine, not the synthetic stuff you get in some high street perfumes. It feels very “expensive hotel lobby in a good way.”

The dry down is pure comfort wrapped in elegance. Vanilla woods and warm musk create this cozy, enveloping base that makes you want to keep sniffing your wrists all day. The vanilla isn’t the sugary-sweet vanilla we know from Cheirosa 62 – it’s more like vanilla pods mixed with sandalwood, warm and woody rather than gourmand.

The whole composition reminds me of that perfect autumn evening when you’re wearing your favourite cashmere jumper and feeling utterly put-together. It’s sophisticated without being stuffy, warm without being heavy.

What Age Group is Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 40 For?

This is where Cheirosa 40 really stands apart from its siblings in the Sol de Janeiro family. While scents like Cheirosa 62, Cheirosa 71, Cheirosa 68 and 87 (Rio Radiance) can skew quite young and playful (hence the popularity with teens), Cheirosa 40 feels distinctly more mature.

I’d say it’s perfect for:

  • 20s and beyond – anyone who wants to smell sophisticated rather than sweet
  • Office-appropriate fragrance lovers (yes, it works beautifully for work!)
  • Evening out enthusiasts who want something special but not overpowering
  • Mums like me who love Sol de Janeiro but want something a bit more grown-up

That said, fragrance is deeply personal, and I’ve heard from loads of younger readers who absolutely adore it. My 13-year-old has it as part of her Sol collection too, so don’t let age put you off if you love the scent profile.

What I will say is that it feels like Sol de Janeiro’s answer to those of us who love the brand but sometimes want something less “beach holiday” and more “sophisticated city break.” It’s the scent equivalent of swapping your flip-flops for heels.

Is Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 40 Good for Everyday Use?

Absolutely, yes! This has become one of my most-reached-for fragrances, and here’s why:

Versatility is key. Unlike some of the other Sol de Janeiro scents that scream “holiday vibes,” Cheirosa 40 works for virtually any occasion. I’ve worn it to:

  • School drop-offs (other mums always ask what I’m wearing)
  • Work meetings (professional but memorable)
  • Date nights with the husband
  • Weekend shopping trips
  • Evening events

The projection is just right. You know how some body mists either disappear within an hour or announce your arrival from three streets away? Cheirosa 40 hits that perfect middle ground. It creates a lovely scent bubble around you without being overwhelming.

It layers beautifully. I love using it with other products from the Bom Dia Bright range, but it also plays nicely with other fragrances if you want to create your own signature scent blend.

Weather-appropriate year-round. While some Sol de Janeiro scents are distinctly summery, Cheirosa 40 works in any season. It’s cozy enough for winter but fresh enough for summer.

The only time I might skip it? Maybe super early morning gym sessions, but that’s more about personal preference than the scent itself being inappropriate.

Longevity and Performance: How Long Does It Actually Last?

Let’s be honest about longevity – it’s a body mist, not an eau de parfum, so we need to set realistic expectations. That said, Cheirosa 40 performs surprisingly well:

On my skin: I get a solid 4-5 hours of good projection, with the scent becoming softer but still detectable for another 2-3 hours. Not bad for a mist!

On clothes: This is where it really shines. I’ve caught whiffs of it on my jumpers and scarves hours and hours later. Sometimes even the next day if I haven’t washed the item.

In my hair: Brilliant for this! A light mist through the lengths of my hair means I catch lovely wafts throughout the day, especially when I move. Teen daughter loves doing this before school too.

Pro tip from a mum of three: I keep a travel size in my handbag and car for touch-ups. A quick spritz mid-afternoon brings it right back to life.

The performance is definitely better than many body mists I’ve tried, and at £24 for 90ml, you’re getting excellent value for money considering how much you actually need to use.

What is the Nicest Smelling Sol de Janeiro Spray?

Now this is where things get subjective, isn’t it? After trying every single Sol de Janeiro perfume mist (occupational hazard!), here’s my honest ranking:

For sophistication: Cheirosa 40 wins hands down. It’s the most complex and grown-up of the bunch.

For summer vibes: Cheirosa 62 (the OG Bum Bum scent) is unbeatable. Pure sunshine in a bottle.

For compliments: Cheirosa 68 gets the most reactions, probably because it’s everywhere right now.

For gourmand lovers: Cheirosa 71 if you want to smell like a walking dessert (in the best way).

For tropical holidays: Cheirosa 87 smells like the most expensive sun cream and I’m here for it.

But honestly? If I had to pick just one Sol de Janeiro scent to take to a desert island (or just to have in my handbag forever), it would be Cheirosa 40. It’s versatile enough for any situation while being special enough that I never get bored of it.

How Does Cheirosa 40 Compare to the Competition?

Having tested pretty much every body mist on the market (seriously, my bathroom looks like a Superdrug fragrance section), here’s how Cheirosa 40 stacks up:

Against other Sol de Janeiro scents: It’s definitely the most sophisticated and office-appropriate of the range. Less sweet than 62, more wearable than 68, more complex than 87.

Against high-street body mists: The projection and longevity are significantly better than most drugstore options. You’re paying a bit more but getting much better performance.

Against actual perfumes: Obviously, it won’t compete with a proper EDP for longevity, but the scent quality is genuinely impressive. Some of those £100+ perfumes don’t smell as well-crafted as this does.

The Packaging and Practical Bits

Can we talk about how gorgeous the bottle is? That deep pinky colour looks absolutely stunning lined up on my dressing table (yes, I’m shallow like that). The pump is sturdy and gives a good, even spray without being too forceful.

Size options: 90ml (£24) and 240ml (£38). I’d recommend starting with the smaller size unless you know you absolutely love it.

Travel-friendly: The 90ml fits perfectly in hand luggage, though the cap does make it a bit bulky. Small price to pay for smelling amazing on holiday though!

Ingredients: Simple and clean – mainly alcohol, water, and fragrance. It’s vegan and cruelty-free, which gets a big tick from me.

Who Should Buy Cheirosa 40?

You’ll love this if you:

  • Want a Sol de Janeiro scent but prefer something more sophisticated
  • Love floral fragrances with depth and complexity
  • Need an everyday scent that works from morning to evening
  • Want something office-appropriate but not boring
  • Love scents that evolve throughout the day
  • Appreciate good value for money in your fragrance collection

Maybe skip it if you:

  • Prefer very sweet, gourmand fragrances
  • Only want ultra-long-lasting perfumes
  • Don’t like floral notes at all
  • Are looking for something distinctly summery and beachy

My Final Opinion

After wearing Cheirosa 40, I can honestly say it’s become one of my signature scents from the Sol range. It’s sophisticated enough for my grown-up mum life, but still fun and distinctive enough to make me feel special every time I wear it.

The fact that it works equally well for a school run or a date night makes it incredibly practical, and at £24, it’s accessible luxury at its finest. I love that I can smell expensive and put-together without breaking the bank.

Would I repurchase? Yes, and I have a backup waiting in my beauty drawer.

Is it the best Sol de Janeiro scent? That depends entirely on what you’re looking for, but for versatility and sophistication, it’s definitely my top pick from the range.

Rating: 4/5 stars

The only thing stopping it from being a perfect 5? I’d love a proper perfume version for special occasions when I want the longevity to match the beautiful scent.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cheirosa 40

Q: Does Cheirosa 40 smell like any other popular perfumes? It has a unique scent profile, but the sophisticated plum and vanilla wood combination reminds me of some higher-end department store fragrances without being a direct dupe for anything specific.

Q: Can I layer Cheirosa 40 with other Sol de Janeiro products? Absolutely! It works beautifully with the Bom Dia Bright Body Cream for extra longevity, and I’ve also successfully layered it with Cheirosa 62 for a more complex scent profile.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? As with any fragrance, it depends on your specific sensitivities. The ingredient list is quite simple, but always patch test if you’re concerned.

Q: How does it compare to the old packaging vs new packaging? The formula remains the same – only the bottle design has been updated. Both versions smell identical.

Q: What’s the best way to apply it for maximum longevity? I spray it on pulse points (wrists, behind ears, collar bones) and also mist it lightly through my hair. Applying to slightly damp skin after a shower helps it last longer too.

Q: Does it work in hot weather? Yes! While it’s warm and cozy, it’s not heavy or cloying in summer heat. The plum and floral notes actually become more prominent in warmer weather.
