Small Details That Can Make A Big Difference In Your Home

Posted on September 3, 2024 By Becky

When it comes to home improvement, you might immediately think of big projects like having a brand-new kitchen installed or adding an extension, but the truth is that most of the time, it’s the small details that can make the biggest difference in your home and, what’s great about that is that they’ll take less time, be less expensive, and you can often do them yourself rather than paying professionals to do it. With that in mind, here are some of the small details you might not have thought of that can make your home a much nicer space to be. Read on to find out more.

Change Your Kitchen Cabinet Handles

One of the quickest, easiest, and really effective things you can do is to update your kitchen by just changing the handles. It’s amazing how such a small thing can instantly improve the room’s entire look and feel and you can make your kitchen look a lot more modern or change the feeling to something more traditional in a few moments – there are sure to be cabinet handles and knobs to suit exactly the look you’re going for.

When you’re choosing your handles, try to make sure they match the existing holes in your cabinet so in that way you don’t have to drill any new ones and it’s all going to look nice and neat when it’s all done – it’s the small things like that which really do make a difference.

Update Light Switch Covers

Light switch covers might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to updating your home, but they can actually have a big impact, and once you start, that’s something that’s easy to see. Switching your old, perhaps discolored (something you might not have realized has happened until you compare the old one to the new one) light switch covers for something fresh and stylish is such an easy way to add a bit of style and flair to a room, and you don’t have to be an electrician to do it, making it even better.

You can find light switch covers in a variety of different styles, colors, and finishes – you can even get glass ones – but the best place to start when you’re thinking about what might work for you is to consider the rest of the room. Unless you’re going to change the rest of the decor, it makes sense to ensure your light switch covers match everything else or they could look out of place when you don’t want them to.

Add Decorative Throw Pillows

Now here’s a really easy thing to do that doesn’t even require any DIY skills – if your living room or bedroom feels a bit bland, try adding a few decorative throw pillows into the room and see what a difference it makes. These pillows are an easy, inexpensive way to give a room a bit more color, texture, and perhaps patterns, and they’re so versatile that you can change them as the seasons change or just whenever you fancy a new look.

The best thing to do with these is to stick to a color palette that works with your existing decor for the most part, but add in a pop of color here and there to personalize things and shake them up – it can really look good.
