How to Make Your Home Feel Less Empty Posted on May 20, 2024 By Becky There are several reasons your home may feel empty. You may have moved into a bigger apartment, or it is your first time living alone, and you are still trying to figure it out. No matter the case, you can achieve a fuller and cozier space on a budget. “All it takes is some creativity”, says an expert in home remodeling in Hinsdale. You may also decide to hire professionals to remodel your space. But if you want to do it yourself, here are five inexpensive ideas. Cover Your Walls Painting the walls of a new space or repainting the walls of your current space is cool, but what about covering them? Wallpapers – yes, they are a trend coming back from the great beyond – and floating shelves to hold ornaments, trophies, small art pieces, and even potted plants are the easiest way to do this. Even putting up a framed memory will help. Hanging a full-length mirror can also do the trick. Here’s why covering your walls is necessary for your remodeling efforts: Walls are like your home’s skin. Bare, it can be compared to a naked human body. Covered, it is more presentable and less jarring. Add Color! Open up the color wheel and get a few items from the color that complements your initial color choice. A center rug and throw pillows for your couches are two good ways to start. Rebel against your current palette and get something that stands out. If your house is covered in shades of blue, get a yellow piece of furniture or artwork with touches of yellow. The difference this makes is phenomenal. Finally, use lighting to add color. If your home color palette is grey, use mood lighting in different colors to add life to your space and show off your personality. Invest in an Attention-drawing Centrepiece If you live in an urban area – be it a busy city or a big town with industries and trading centers – this may not be for you. You probably take in so much information and would prefer a minimalist home, which might feel like therapy. If you live in a smaller town or a suburb, then you need this. Imagine walking into your house after a busy day, and the most beautiful coffee table catches your eye. This triggers something in you that allows you to look around and appreciate the beauty all around it, then you smile as you put down your things and settle down for a restful evening. This is what a centerpiece does. Your centerpiece can be anything from a handcrafted coffee table to a beautiful sculpture, a wonderfully framed family portrait, and even a trophy you won as a high-school football star! Use More Shelves You may not have so much stuff. You may not even be interested in buying so much stuff. But if the goal is to make your space feel fuller, then using more shelves is a great way to go, especially in the corners of your home. In your sitting room, place shelves at the corners. You can use them to hold plants, books, art, or even keys. In your room, the shelves can hold anything from plants to lamps. The only place this shelving method will not work is in your kitchen. This is because the kitchen is already the busiest area of every home by default. Remember: Your shelves can also be a work of art, not necessarily for holding anything. Always remember this when you shop. Use your Floors to your Advantage Human behavioral patterns show that people look at the floor of homes they walk into first. If the floors are bare, their perspective of the house immediately changes. To avoid this, litter your floors with esthetically pleasing items. A small artsy stool in one corner, a potted plant in another, a fancy rug at the door welcoming guests into your home, and poufs and floor pillows in your living room are a great way to start. Mood lighting that is never taken off the floor is also a great way to use the floors in your home to your advantage. You can also place speakers in various areas in your living space on the floor. If you live alone, you may want your workout or chore song to play in every room. Floor-mounted speakers that are connected to your music source solve this. In conclusion, you can transform your home from feeling empty to vibrant and inviting. You may not be able to hire professionals to handle your remodeling. However, with creativity and thoughtful arrangement, your home can become a sanctuary that feels like a reflection of you.
