How to Make More Money in Your Current Career

If you’ve ever asked for a pay rise at work, then you know how difficult it can be to understand that sometimes you’re not going to get one. The thing is, we’re living in quite a severe cost of living crisis, so right now you might be looking for any way possible to make extra cash or more cash so that you can continue to live the life that you’ve become accustomed to.

Understanding how to make more money is easy enough. You can get a second job, you can pull a third job, or you can simply borrow it if you need to. However, if you want to make more money in your current career, that’s a little different. So let’s take a look at how you can up your income potential in the career that you are in, rather than having to get a second or even third job.

• Upskill. One of the easiest ways that you can make more money in your current career is to segue into a second role within that career and upskill. Whether you pick certifications, diplomas, or even a degree such as these TEFL qualifications, you can upskill quite quickly and have more talent and leverage behind you when you ask for a pay rise. If you choose to go down the route of an extra qualification then you can present this to your boss and show them that you have worked for the extra money.”

• Show off just a little bit rather than just riding high. When something goes well, note the moments down and feed them back with your manager. You might like getting a pat on the back from them, but what about telling them about the things that you’re doing when they’re not there? Whether you get good feedback, an award or even cold hard cash, use it to your advantage when you are asking for a raise.

• Do a little digging. What are other people earning in your same role in other businesses? How are other companies faring when it comes to paying people at the same level as you? If you understand what other people are being paid, you’ll be able to leverage this information when it comes to asking for a pay rise for yourself. You want to be able to say that other people are earning this amount of money and you feel like your skills are on par with that, so you’d like to earn the same. This way, if your boss says no, you can simply decide to move on if you want to.

• Network as much as you can. Networking is something that not everybody is suited to, but it’s something everybody should be doing. Joining associations related to your profession or attending industry events can help you to get the big dogs in front of you who make the decisions.

Making more money is never easy, but making more money in your current career is more of a challenge. These tips should help you to get there.
