If like me you’re quite careful in choosing Christmas presents for your children, and are reluctant to keep buying piles of random tat, you might be someone who thinks outside the box a bit when it comes to Christmas shopping. Of course, both of my older two children LOVE toys, and at 5 and 6 I love the fact that they still play with pretty much everything they own, and in a world where kids seem to grow up so fast these days, they are showing no signs of this play stopping, and thank goodness for that.
However, it’s nice sometimes to come across something a bit different for them to enjoy, and with two children who are BIG on learning about the world, I was really delighted when we were sent the Chad Valley PlaySmart Interactive Touch Pad World Map (there’s a mouthful!) for them to review as part of the Chad Valley Play Panel. This cool, geography-based tablet is awesome for encouraging your little ones to learn about different countries of the world (you can explore 19 in depth with this).
By taking a tour of the world, children aged 3 and up (although I think ours are the perfect age to start at 5 and 6), can answer up to 1000 quiz questions to test their worldly knowledge, once they’ve learnt the fun facts about geography, landmarks, people, language and more.
What we loved about this is that F and S had to put their problem-solving skills to the test, and it kept them enthralled over the course of a few evenings after school. Since the pad is a decent size, it meant they could look at it together and take turns pressing the different parts (i.e. countries) on the pad to select the answer to the question that they thought best.
Sasha also loves using it to play ‘Schools’ with as part of her ‘teaching’!
As a parent I think toys like these are a great way to learn facts i.e. capital cities, as the children hear the answers often (without hearing them too much and getting bored), so they’re really learning subliminally!
This pad is a great gift idea this Christmas, either for your own child or maybe a family of friend’s child- I know I would be really chuffed if one of ours received this, and at currently £10.99 it’s a really reasonable price too.
To be in with a chance of winning a £75 Argos gift card so you too could shop for your own one of these, or other Chad Valley Toys, please fill in the Rafflecopter widget below using as many options as you’d like.
Good luck!
