How to make a felt fox mask

A while ago Bear Nibbles got in contact with me to see if I’d like to take up the challenge of making a felt fox mask for the children, and get our ‘paws outdoors’, and being a crafty sort of lady, of course I said yes! 

We love making bits and bobs, the simpler the better, and fancy dress always goes down well in this house. So, following the instructions on the ace ‘Fox’ card they sent me, along with the necessary craft tools, I set about making the mask. 

You will need:

• Orange, dark brown and white felt.
• White pipe cleaners
• Sewing scissors
• Strong, PVA glue
• Thin, black elastic
• Black felt tip pen

Instructions:

First off, you need to draw the outline of your fox’s face, and two holes for the eyes, using a black felt tip pen. 

On the leftover bits of orange felt, cut out two large triangles, and on a piece of white felt, cut out two smaller triangles (these will fit inside the orange ones to make the ears). Glue the white triangles onto the orange ones.

Then glue your ears onto the underside of your mask, so they are facing outwards and the bottoms of the triangles are no longer visible. 

Next, cut out a circle of dark brown felt- this will be your foxes nose. 

Glue your nose onto your mask- you fox should start to actually look like a fox now!

Next, superglue 3 white pipe cleaners onto each side of your fox’s face to make whiskers. Trim down if necessary. 

Then, using your scissors, make two small holes in either side of you mask. Cut a piece of the black elastic, enough to fit around the chosen person’s head, but no too much so it goes baggy, and then thread through the holes and tie each end with a knot. 

and ta-dah! You have one felt fox mask ready to go, for a day of adventures outdoors (or in!).
