4 Attractions You Must See in Portsmouth

Posted on March 31, 2022 By Becky

Portsmouth

Are you planning your next trip, but you don’t know where you want to go? Do you feel like it’s time to find a hidden gem so that you can boast about discovering a less popular travel destination where you went and you had the time of your life? If this is the case, you clicked on the right article, as here are some attractions you must see in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth is a port city in the south of England. If you are a sea lover, then this is the ideal place for you. Below you will discover just a few of the places that you need to visit in Portsmouth and appreciate not only its geographical significance but also its natural beauty. Although only four spots are mentioned in this article, Portsmouth is a large city which means that you will need a car in order to get from one place to another. Booking each of your car rides with Enjoy Travel guarantees that you will save time so that you can comfortably reach and explore all the touristy places in your list. Any self-respecting traveller needs to make sure that they are efficient during their trip.

Attraction 1: Mary Rose Museum

Would you be interested in seeing and exploring a ship that was sunk in 1545? If this sounds like fun – which you have to admit that it is pretty awesome – you should visit the Mary Rose Museum. Mary Rose was a ship that used to go on long journeys across oceans, but it sank on 19 July 1545. Luckily for us, the wreck was discovered and lifted from the bottom of the sea in 1982. It is a museum now as many objects and artefacts from a different era were found in the wreck.

Attraction 2: National Museum of the Royal Navy

Portsmouth has a rich naval history thanks to its location and its historic dockyard. You can still see many grand ships that were properly functioning and were going on voyages to undiscovered areas or were protecting the island from foreign attacks parked there. The easiest way to learn all about their history and significance is by visiting the National Museum of the Royal Navy, which exhibits findings that are more than 300 years old.

Attraction 3: Spinnaker Tower

The most famous attraction of the city is the Spinnaker Tower. It is an observation tower which was built as a symbol of the revival of the city and its harbour. In one of the three decks you get to feel the thrill of walking on glass tiles and see the ocean and the ships below you.

Attraction 4: D-Day Story

Another popular tourist attraction is the D-Day Museum. In the museum there are exhibits and videos showing and educating people about the invasion of the Allied powers in Normandy on June 6, 1944. This invasion led to the liberation of Northern France and after a while World War II ended.

The other week I spent the best part of the day with the smalls and my awesome in-laws, where we went to Hall Place, Bexley. Considering it’s not far from where we live, I hadn’t actually heard of it, so it was a nice surprise when we arrived to discover…

Snaps from Dorset

Posted on November 2, 2016May 2, 2025

Last week we descended on Corfe Castle in Dorset for 5 days in  half term to celebrate slightly early my Father-in-law’s 70th birthday. We were so lucky that my in-laws decided to treat our family, plus Adam’s brothers and their families, to a stay in what I can honestly say…
