10 Things that have made me happy this week

  1. A lovely family lunch in Islington on Saturday to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. The children loved seeing their little cousin Astrid, my niece, and the rest of the family. We all ate far too much and of course, Freddie in particular loved the train and tube journeys there and back!
  2. Really getting into exercise lately. I’m running a 10K next Sunday with two of my closest friends, so we went for a 7K run around Crystal Palace park yesterday morning, followed by brunch in a lovely cafe nearby. I always find the first third of any run really hard, and then seem to find my flow and it starts to feel easier. I’ve been going to the gym a lot too lately, to spin, body combat and HIIT classes, and really feel great for it. It lifts my mood, and makes me want to make healthier choices too eating and drinkin-wise. I really resonated with this post that Alison wrote last week about her running journey.
  3. The sunny weather! For once, a whole weekend, Friday to Sunday where it didn’t rain and was actually sunny! We spent yesterday afternoon at a local park with friends and it was glorious. Really feels like spring is finally on the way, although it is a little chilly still!
  4. Flowers- in gardens, in the house, I can’t get enough. I absolutely LOVE daffodils, and they’re so cheap to buy too. NO excuse not to pop some in my shopping basket!
  5. A much needed night out with Freddie’s school mums. They’re such a nice bunch and I feel really lucky to have met a group of ladies who are great to have a natter with.
  6. Cadbury’s mini eggs. SO good, but not so good for the waistline. I’m telling myself they’re only around for another few weeks!
  7. Yoga. Again, something I’ve only recently got into the swing of at the gym, and I find it so relaxing. I now know enough to do at home, so I sometimes to a few exercises to relax me before bed too, as my brain finds it quite hard to switch off. I also have quite tight/short hamstrings and calf muscles so I’m hoping in time doing lots more yoga will really stretch them out.
  8. Enjoying more reading and crafty stuff with the kids. Okay, so I know the latter in particular doesn’t sound fun to lots of people, but it’s more the spending time with the children aspect here. Since i’m working more and the children are at school and preschool I feel we don’t always get the quality time we need together. Lately though there have been a few hours here and there where we’ve read more books, played games and we’ve sat and chatted whilst F and S draw or paint. It’s been lovely and made me realise we need to prioritise it more. Not always easy when life seems like such a rush.
  9. Freshly washed bedding- nothing better than getting into a nice, clean bed!
  10. Hot cross bun overload- I prefer mine ‘raw’ and not toasted but according to Instagram I’m a weirdo here! How do you eat yours?!

Have a great week everyone- what has made you happy this lately?

Ooh the mini egg guilt! I love them. I’m jealous of all your exercise lately. I’ve been feel so rough since we returned from skiing that I can’t get the energy up to go to the gym. I think it’s been 3 weeks now 🙁 Feel so yucky for not going 🙁
