Smart Ways To Save Money On Your Next Kitchen Renovation

Posted on February 11, 2025 By Becky

Want to give your old and tired kitchen a facelift? Worry about the cost of doing this? Well, you’re not alone because kitchen renovations can be incredibly expensive. The good news is there are some ways to keep renovation costs to a minimum. Keep reading to find out what they are.

Pick budget hardware

It’s very tempting to get carried away when renovating a kitchen and to want perfection from every single aspect including all the steals like hardware. However, its items like taps and door handles can add up if you choose luxury options, and they will add a great deal to the cost of your renovation.

That is why instead you should always opt for budget hardware when looking to save money. Then you can upgrade later on if you want to, and you have the money to do so. Many people will find that they become used to the budget options and don’t feel the need to replace them after all.

Opt for open cabinets.

Another way you can save money when refurbishing your kitchen is to choose open cabinets and shelving in a farmhouse style. These are nearly always cheaper than cabinets with doors as they require less materials and work to install.

The only thing you need to remember is that while they can look very fashionable, open shelving may not always be the most practical choice in a kitchen. This is because there tends to be plenty of grease from cooking in the atmosphere, and this when combined with dust can result in all the items stored there being coated with a thick layer of greasy dust that it’s hard to remove.

Choose a second-hand kitchen.

If you just have to dust the contents of your cabinets regularly, then a fitted kitchen is always a better choice. Fortunately, you can save money even when buying this type of kitchen. All you need to do is look for affordable 2nd hand kitchens online and review the choices that come up. Indeed, you’ll find that there is a roaring trade for second-hand kitchens precisely because they are such good value and great quality. All you’ll need to do is find the one you like and that will fit with your new vision for your kitchen renovation.

Don’t change your layout.

You can also save a great deal of money when renovating your kitchen by keeping the layout the same as it was before. This is because when you change things like the sink and washing machine layout you’ll need to get a plumber in to deal with the drainage, and this can increase the cost of the work.

Choose laminate for your floors.

Laminate is a great flooring option that won’t break the bank when renovating your kitchen. One of the biggest advantages of choosing laminate is that you can get an expensive look like hardwood oak, for a fraction of the price of the real thing.

Laminate is also very durable which means it’s easy to keep clean and will continue to look good even after a fair amount of wear. Some laminate floors are even eco-friendly because they are made from recycled wood, which means new trees are not cut down to make them and less energy and water are used in the manufacturing process.
