Purchasing A Car For Long Road Trips? Consider This Advice

Posted on June 18, 2025 By Becky

What, would you say, is the most important part of the road trip? You may think that it’s the route you take, the preparations you make, or balancing the driving duties with your partner so you both get enough rest.

However, without a good vehicle you can rely on for long-distance comfortable travel, you’re not going to have the best time. That’s not to say you can’t go for long distances in the hatchback or van you already own, only that if you love to travel on the roads and you’re in the market for a new car, perhaps prioritizing these experiences could be a good idea.

So, what makes a car more suitable for a road trip? As you plan your budget, look for quotations that offer women’s car insurance, and think about where you plan to drive to, we hope the following advice can make your buying journey easier:

Fuel Economy

Stopping for fuel constantly gets old pretty fast, as you really don’t want to spend half your trip eyeing the petrol gauge. While capacity can help with this, it mostly helps to have a car that doesn’t guzzle through the tank too quickly, and that’s even more important if you’re covering long stretches between towns. You’re not always going to find cheap fuel stations nearby, either, so a more efficient use of fuel can keep you going for some time. Not to mention, it will also help you be a little more environmentally friendly. Now, don’t obsess over getting the most efficient model out there, but a nippy vehicle with decent mileage and a tank that lasts a while will definitely make things easier for your purse.

Internal Comfort & Flexibility

A good road trip car doesn’t necessarily need to be as tricked-out as a luxury RV like you see in the States, but it should be somewhere you don’t mind spending a full day sitting in. That involves comfortable seats, a bit of space to move around, and somewhere to rest your elbow while driving, for instance.

If you’ve got kids or passengers, being able to shift the seats, recline them, or fold them down to make space for bags is going to help massively. That’s especially true if one of your children is older and can sit in the back more easily, and you also need to free up a bench for car seatts. Some people even opt for seven-seaters in that respect. Also, see how well it takes a top box, to save some of the luggage limitation inside.

Two Strength & Protection

If you’ve bikes, a trailer, or a boot packed to the ceiling, then it helps to have a car that can handle the extra weight without struggling. Some destinations might also take you across rougher ground or up into the hills, so a bit of undercarriage protection and traction support never hurts as well. Looking for a vehicle with four-wheel drive might help in these instances, though it doesn’t need to be a larger car like a Land Rover to achieve this, a sedan can often be enough. Just makes sure you’re not going to cause undue pressure on the drivechain.

With this advice, you’ll be certani to enjoy the best car for your road trip habit. Happy driving!
