How To Decide If It’s Time To Buy A New Car

Posted on January 23, 2026 By Becky

There comes a time in every car owner’s life when they decide they need a new car. It might be because your current one isn’t running as it should, or it could be because you have a new life circumstance and need a new vehicle to accommodate things like a growing family or a new job in the city. No matter the reason, getting a new car is a big purchase and one you want to do right. From deciding on a budget, to finding the right sort of vehicle for you, we’ve put together some top tips that should help you to decide if it’s time to buy a new car and how to get the best one for you. Keep reading to find out more.

Your current vehicle doesn’t fit what you need it for

One of the first signs that you need to buy a new car is if your current one isn’t fitting what you need it for anymore. It could be that you have a new child, or perhaps a dog that you take out and about, and therefore you need plenty of room in the back. You might need space for their things, or perhaps you need to carry around big items for work, or take clients out and about and they need more leg room. If you work in the city, it could be that you need a smaller car that can get around quickly and park in small spaces. If your current vehicle isn’t hitting those needs, it’s time you look into a new one.

You want more updated features

If you find you’re getting frustrated with your car and it’s just not meeting your needs in terms of the features it has, it’s time to get looking for something new. Even if you don’t have a huge budget, you can find luxury used cars such as on luxuria car sales where you can find really high-spec vehicles for a great price. They might have things like sat nav, park assist, built-in dash cams and so much more.

Repair bills are getting higher and higher

When you have a car, you expect there to be the odd repair here and there, but if you’re constantly having to get things fixed on your vehicle, and you’re spending out on it seemingly constantly, it’s probably time to look into getting something new. Sometimes it can feel like you’re spending all your money on repairs, which will end up costing you more in the long run.

These are just three indicators that you need a new car. While cars are a big purchase, you need to think of them as more of an investment that you use every day. By ensuring you get one that has all the features you could possibly need, as well as enough space for a growing family, or is small enough to nip you around the city for work, you’re onto a winner. What are some top tips you have for people looking for a new car? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
