Preparation Tips for a Special Occasion

Posted on August 12, 2024 By Becky

There are those special moments in life when we want to look our absolute best, whether it’s for a wedding, an awards night or a milestone birthday. However, looking polished and put together doesn’t always mean splurging on expensive professional services.

The cost of attending a wedding or other special occasion is estimated at £400, but you can take the cost of grooming out of the equation with these top tips. By focusing on a few key areas and learning the right technique, you can ensure that you make a lasting impression at any important event.

Skincare Routine

Great skin points to radiance, inside and out so a consistent skincare routine is the foundation of your beauty regime. Whether you have weeks to prepare or just a few days, applying your skincare products can make a significant difference in how your makeup looks and how your skin feels.

Begin by cleansing your skin twice daily to remove dirt, oil and impurities, followed by a toner and moisturisers. Toners help to balance the skin’s pH and tighten pores, while a moisturiser hydrates and plumps. You should also exfoliate twice a week to remove dead skin cells and prevent breakouts.

Hair Removal and Body Care

Hair removal is a personal choice, but many prefer to be hair-free for big events. Whether you opt for waxing, shaving or using an epilator, choose hair removal products that suit your skin type. If you’re waxing, do it a few days in advance to allow any irritation to go down.

Regular exfoliation is just as important for your body as it is for your face. Use a body scrub or a loofah in the shower to slough off dead skin cells and then hydrate your skin with a body lotion or oil once you’ve dried off.

Makeup Tips

Makeup enhances your natural beauty and ensures your look lasts throughout the entire event. Start with a primer that suits your skin type – its role is to create a smooth base and help your makeup stay put. Next, you need to choose a foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly.

Concealer helps to cover blemishes or dark circles and can be held in place with setting powder (also good for preventing shine). If you have any eyeshadow trends in mind, give them a trial run before the big day.

Hair Care and Styling

Luscious, shiny hair is a sign of good health and will get you countless compliments. In the weeks leading up to the event, treat your hair to deep conditioning treatments to ensure it’s in the best possible condition. If your hair is dyed, plan your touch-up session at least a week before.

When it comes to styling, match your hair to the event’s formality, your outfit and your comfort. Sleek updos, voluminous blowouts and soft curls are always crowd-pleasers.
