How Has Working from Home Boosted Online Entertainment Use?

Society has witnessed a monumental shift over the last few years, with an incredible rise in people working outside of the traditional office setting. Working from home has become viable thanks to improvements in technology and faster internet connections, along with the sheer number of careers that now exist online.

Online entertainment has benefited from this new trend, as people are enjoying more frequent breaks and flexible schedules. On top of that, home workers have more downtime because they don’t need to spend time travelling to and from the workplace.  

More People Working from Home Than Ever Before

According to the latest figures, around 28 per cent of working adults do so in a hybrid fashion – spending some time at home and some in the office. The share of people who only work from home is still under 20 per cent, but it’s estimated to rise in the future as the tools for remote working advance further.

There are various benefits to this trend for business owners and employees. From the business owners’ perspective, having their workforce go about their daily tasks from home means that they can save a lot of costs on office rent and utilities.

The workers themselves get to enjoy much more freedom without bosses breathing down their necks, and they can set their own working schedules throughout the day. In an office scenario, the idea of watching a Netflix episode at lunchtime is unthinkable. At home, on the other hand, it’s completely normal.  

The Blurring Line Between Work and Leisure

Various entertainment companies have adapted to this new paradigm, with short-form content finding particular success. Studies have shown that many people procrastinate to some degree, and this often manifests as them stopping work for five minutes here or there to do something non-work related.

YouTube Shorts and other short-form video broadcasting services have enjoyed increased interest over the last few years, coinciding with the rise of working from home. There is reason to believe that this new way of working could be contributing to that.

The online casino market has also been thriving, with a notable increase in the number of video slots. The market has witnessed an influx of new mechanics, such as Cash Bank, Blaze Trail, and Super Scatter, highlighting how there are broader demographics of players to cater for.

With the accessibility of all this quickfire entertainment, the lines between work and leisure are becoming increasingly blurred. It’s now not out of the ordinary for people to enjoy entertainment throughout the working day, dispersed between periods of focus.

This all could actually be beneficial, as it gives people a chance to break up the monotony and feel like they have more control over how they spend their time as well. Improved technology and connectivity has been a major boost to the rise of online entertainment use too, with it now being much easier for people to spread their attention across multiple devices.

The working from home trend may have had an influence on online entertainment, as there has been a massive increase in the amount of short-form content out there. People who work from home may find this to be the best form of leisure to consume throughout their working days.
