How Cannabis Is Finding Its Place in Everyday Self-Care Rituals

Posted on April 14, 2025November 28, 2025 By Becky

There was a time when cannabis was seen as the opposite of productivity, health, or balance – something hidden, whispered about, or reserved for rebellion. Today, that narrative is rapidly unraveling.

As someone who has been both a wellness enthusiast and a longtime cannabis consumer, I’ve watched with fascination as this once-taboo plant finds its way into bathroom cabinets, evening rituals, and yoga mats across the country. What used to be counterculture is becoming mainstream self-care, and cannabis – especially CBD – is right at the center of it.

The Shift: From Stigma to Self-Care

Over the past decade, cannabis has moved from the margins into the wellness spotlight. A 2024 Pew Research poll revealed that nearly nine in ten Americans support some form of cannabis legalization. That kind of cultural shift doesn’t happen by accident – it reflects a deeper change in how we relate to health, stress, and daily life.

Wellness is no longer reserved for green smoothies and boutique fitness studios. It’s about learning to manage the pressures of modern life with tools that actually work. And cannabis, once dismissed as a vice, is proving itself to be one of those tools.

CBD vs. THC: What’s the Difference?

Let’s clear up a common misunderstanding: not all cannabis is about getting high.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis that’s been shown to help with anxiety, inflammation, and sleep. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD won’t leave you feeling altered or foggy. It’s become a favorite among those looking for calm without the cognitive shift.

The World Health Organization has described CBD as “generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.” Today, CBD is everywhere – from skincare aisles to cafés. In fact, the global CBD skincare market is projected to surpass $1.7 billion by 2024, according to Grand View Research. This is no passing fad – it’s a rethinking of what wellness can look like.

Cannabis in the Bathroom: Beauty, Baths, and Skincare

Gone are the days of mystery lotions and dubious DIY salves. Today’s cannabis beauty products are luxurious, effective, and elegantly packaged.

Personally, I’ve swapped out my post-run muscle cream for a CBD-infused balm – the kind that soothes deep tissue aches and smells like eucalyptus heaven. Bath bombs with full-spectrum CBD are another favorite: perfect for long soaks, calming the nervous system, and easing tension after a chaotic day.

Brands like Herbivore, Dutch Passion, and Lord Jones are blending clean skincare principles with the therapeutic power of cannabis. Backed by early studies suggesting that CBD has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, these products are making their way into everyday routines – not just for those with skin conditions, but for anyone seeking a little more calm.

Sipping and Soothing: Teas and Tinctures

If you’ve never tried cannabis in tea form, you’re in for a gentle revelation.

CBD teas – available in calming blends like chamomile, peppermint, or rooibos – are an easy way to unwind in the evening. They’re non-psychoactive, cozy, and have become a staple in my nighttime ritual. Some even include herbs like lemon balm or passionflower for extra relaxation.

Tinctures, on the other hand, offer more control. A few drops under the tongue can deliver effects in under half an hour. I often keep a 3:1 CBD:THC tincture in my nightstand for those evenings when my mind won’t quiet down. The effects are subtle but significant: more presence, less tension.

Mindfulness and Microdosing: A New Kind of Focus

There’s a quiet movement happening in the wellness world: people using low doses of cannabis to deepen their mindfulness practice.

Whether it’s a bit of CBD before a journaling session or a microdose of THC (1–2 mg) before yoga, cannabis can help ease the chatter in your brain and bring you back into your body. For me, pairing a light edible with breathwork or even a long walk has become a go-to method for reconnecting with myself.

A 2020 study in the Journal of Psychopharmacology noted that cannabis may increase feelings of awe and connectedness, both of which are key to mindfulness. It’s not about zoning out – it’s about tuning in.

Crafting Your Own Ritual

The beauty of cannabis in the wellness space is its adaptability. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you’re new to it or returning with fresh intention, building a cannabis ritual can be as simple or involved as you like.

You might try:

  • A Sunday soak with a CBD bath bomb and your favorite playlist.
  • A weekday wind-down with low-dose tincture and guided meditation.
  • A creative hour with microdosed THC and sketching, writing, or playing music.

Whatever form it takes, the goal is the same: to feel more like yourself.

Before You Begin

Of course, it’s worth noting a few important guidelines. If you’re new to cannabis or reintroducing it after time away:

  • Start low, go slow – especially with THC.
  • Check the legal status in your area.
  • Look for lab-tested products with clear labels.
  • And if you’re managing a health condition or taking medications, consult a doctor before adding cannabis to your routine.

Wellness, after all, is about caring for yourself intelligently – not jumping into trends unprepared. If you need more information, head over to Leafy Doc for cannabis measurement resources and more guidance on cannabis and CBD.

Why It Matters

Cannabis isn’t a magic cure-all. It’s not going to replace therapy, meditation, or hydration. But it can complement them – and sometimes, that little bit of calm or clarity is what we need most.

In a world that’s constantly pushing us to hustle, perform, and achieve, choosing to slow down and care for yourself becomes an act of quiet rebellion. And if cannabis helps you do that – whether in a cup of tea, a facial serum, or a journaling session – then it deserves its place in the ritual.

Because self-care isn’t selfish. And for many of us, cannabis is becoming an essential part of what it means to truly rest, reflect, and recharge.
