Holiday Hamper Tips: How To Craft The Ultimate Xmas Gift Hamper Posted on November 4, 2025 By Becky Xmas hampers can make excellent personalised gifts for family members, friends or colleagues. It’s a chance to carefully curate your own treasure trove of goodies catered to their interests and preferences. Below are some tips on how to build the ultimate holiday hamper. Choosing a theme First, consider finding a theme for your hamper. While you can pack your hamper full of random assortments, a theme can help you to more easily decide what contents to choose. It’s worth choosing a theme related to the recipient’s lifestyles or interests. For example, when buying for a frazzled friend who is always busy working, you could consider a spa hamper full of bath bombs and herbal teas. If you’re buying for a dad who loves sports, you could consider a sports-themed hamper full of ornaments and equipment. A family member who is a foodie could meanwhile receive a gourmet hamper full of artisanal cheeses and spreads. Consider choosing ribbons and labels that match this theme (such as ribbons with footballs on for a sports-themed hamper). Selecting your contents Next, you get to choose your contents. To make sure the hamper is substantial but not overwhelming, stick to 5 to 10 items. Try to set a budget so that you don’t go overboard – remember, there are other people you need to buy gifts for too! Aim to choose a variety of different objects related to your theme. For a coffee connoisseur, consider a few coffee blends such as a Christmas coffee blend and maybe a more standard coffee blend that they can enjoy all year round, along with other potential coffee-related items like personalised mugs, a selection of syrups and coffee-flavoured chocolates. Consider a mix of high and low value items. It’s important to think about a person’s dietary requirements or allergies when getting foods or bath products. Be careful of selecting items that will expire quickly unless you’re willing to shop just before Xmas – items with a long shelf-life are a safer bet. Packing your hamper It’s important to pack your hamper carefully so that none of the contents get damaged. Place the heaviest items at the bottom of the hamper and the lighter items at the top. You may want to consider using packaging fillers like shredded paper or eco-friendly packing peanuts (choose filler materials that are white in colour for a festive snow-like appearance). Make sure that your hamper is presentable too. Keep jars upright and make sure the hamper is evenly filled. You could consider adding a few decorative touches too such as flowers, pine cones or even fairy lighting. Some people like to complete their hamper by wrapping it in cellophane and fastening it with a ribbon or bow. You could also add a tag on it with a personalized message. Take care when transporting your hamper – you don’t want to ruin it by stacking loads of items on top of it. If you’re buying a hamper for someone in your household, plan a hiding spot in advance and similarly make sure nothing is stacked on top of it. See more of my seasonal posts here!
