A new shelf in the living room

001

One of the things I’m really please I’ve done already this year blogging-wise, is to create a home ‘bucket list’ of all the things I’d like us to achieve this year. I feel that already it’s keeping me accountable, and I got a little buzz yesterday when I could tick one of those things off the list already <saddo>, and it’s still only January (just!).

I mentioned in this list our living room, and that I thought we needed a shelf of some description over the yellow cupboard and telly. It didn’t quite match the other side of the fireplace that had a bookshelf, and after several months of looking/staring/pondering, I decided that it definitely needed ‘something’. You can see what it looked like before HERE

I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so thought putting a shelf up could be done on the cheaper side, by choosing a simple white one with black brackets, which in turn compliment the other white and black accents within the room. Homebase was my friend in this instance, and I was insanely pleased that I spent so little.

My recently retired Father-in-law was roped in to help (he’s a self confessed ‘doer’, and now looking for lots to do- I told him I have plenty for him!), and has done a great job.

At the moment, the shelf houses the lightbox (#clicheblogger), a large glass vase/ornament thing (from Sainsburys!) that’s been looking for the right home for a few years now, and a plant. I like the plant up there, but might yet play about with putting a couple of different bits up there. I reckon a white, or brightly coloured, ornament would really ‘pop’ against the grey, or a cool print.

We will see….

This little makeover cost the grand total of £14, and I have to say, I’m delighted!

It looks brilliant and the black brackets make it look way more expensive than £14!! Those lightboxes, I want one but don’t want one in the same breath 🙂

I’m with you on this Rachel. I think I only want one because I’m feeling left out! But in itself I don’t really want one. Sad huh. Shelf looks fab (will leave proper comment on this below)

Hmmm don’t do it! I like it but it has a very short (pardon the pun!) shelf life, they’re kinda cool but I think will look quite dated fairly quickly! x

It’s amazing what a difference a good shelf can do, there’s nothing better than adding trinkets to them! It looks great. x

It looks great! I also love your yellow cupboard… I think I’m the only blogger who doesn’t have a Lightbox! Id have to keep it on a high shelf too otherwise my boys would just change it to different Star Wars themes each day…

Hello Becky! Thanks so much for linking up with us! My house was hit with the dreaded winter sick bug last week so I’m so behind with my comments. Just catching up now! Love this — can you send your father in law over to me? I’ve got a million and one jobs on my home bucket list!! We never EVER get a man in — we always do it all ourselves and as a result the list just never seems to go down!!! In my next life I’ll be rich enough to employ a handy man!! 😉

PS #HomeEtc is live tomorrow from 6.30am xx

Looks wonderful – I’d never have thought to use different coloured brackets to a shelf but they make it look great. I like the simplicity of the three items up there. #HomeEtc
