3 Signs That You May Need an Electrician

Posted on March 25, 2021August 4, 2026 By Becky

While we may try to ignore certain smaller electrical problems, this isn’t advised as a property’s electrics can be dangerous and cause harm to your home, but also to its occupants or anyone who visits. This is because faulty wiring can lead to increasing electrical currents and an increased risk of electric shocks. Plus, any loose, frayed or overheated wiring that doesn’t have flexible conduits to protect can lead to a fire breaking out which can be extremely dangerous and cause injury, irreparable damage, and loss of life.

1.      Flickering Lights

Lights that flicker or seem dim and lower their brightness levels, can be caused by a number of issues. Therefore, it is important that you get to the bottom of the reasons quickly so that you can fix any issues as soon as possible, as you may find it could lead to a more serious electrical problem. If you do not feel comfortable doing this on your own, then it might be an idea to get help from a professional electrician, such as premium-electric.ca (or search for one online in your area). Before you call an electrician, turn off the light and unplug the device that is flickering, double check that you are using the right bulb type and ensure that it is installed correctly. It may be that the light bulb was not screwed in tight enough or that you are not using the correct light bulb in the first place. You may also wish to buy a new bulb, swap it out, and see whether this fixes the issue before you call in an electrician who can help with lighting installation & repair in Clarksville, TN, or wherever is local to you.

However, if the flickering persists, then this could signal a more significant issue that requires the assistance of an electrician. Contact trusted and professional electricians from Electrical Safety Certificate and have them inspect the problem. Hiring a skilled electrician Essex or within your immediate area can ensure that they get to the bottom of the issue so that you can have reliable electrics within your property.

2.      Unexpected Changes to Your Electrical Bill

Keep an eye on your monthly electrical bill and see whether there are any significant changes over time. Faulty wiring can lead to an increased electrical bill, so if you are noticing that you are all of a sudden spending more money on your home’s electricity, then you may wish to contact an electrician so that they can see whether there is a fundamental issue with your electrics.

The increase may be steady and grow month after month. Or, the increase may be sudden. Of course, you will need to factor in the addition of another appliance that could be increasing your bill. But if you have not made any changes to your home, then an increased electrical bill can be a cause for concern.

3.      Electrical Outlets Are Warm to the Touch

Your electrical outlets and sockets should not be warm to the touch. And if they are, this is a dangerous sign that you are overloading your sockets and using too much electricity through them. Before you call an electrician, however, unplug your sockets and reset your circuit breaker. If the problem persists, then it is highly recommended that you immediately get in touch with the electricians Auckland City (or where you reside), so that they can inspect the problem even further and fix the electrical problems, in order to prevent electrical fires and other hazards.

Maintaining your home’s electrics is essential as they not only allow you to live a comfortable lifestyle (electricity is what keeps us warm and powered within our homes, after all), but neglecting your home’s electrics can be very dangerous. Above are a few signs that you may need an electrician (we’ve used this company for electrical testing, among other electrical jobs), so if you encounter any of these issues, be sure to contact a professional for advice.
