Why Occupational Therapy Might Be The Career Choice For You In Australia

Posted on February 6, 2024 By Becky

If you are at a point in your life when you haven’t yet chosen a career, the good news is that there are many different jobs out there that might be perfect for you. First of all, you need to work out what it is that you want from your job because if it is only a salary then many companies will pay you a lot of money to work many hours in a day in a sales capacity. If you are the type of person that wants to give something back to society then there are jobs for that as well. Many people nowadays want to strike a work/life balance when it comes to their job and so this makes choosing a little bit more difficult than normal.

If you are the type of person who wants to help people, make a reasonable salary and still be able to balance their work and family commitments then occupational therapy jobs might be what you’re looking for. This is a very rewarding and fulfilling career that allows you to help people from many different demographics in a job that would be regarded as very meaningful and purposeful. If this ticks some of the boxes for you then the following are just some other reasons why this might be the perfect vocation for you.

  • You can make a real difference – There are not very many jobs where you can tell someone that you really do make a big difference in people’s lives every single day. By becoming an occupational therapist, it will be your job to get people back on their feet so that their quality of life is improved both physically and mentally. People run into different challenges every single day and you will be there to help them to reach their goals and to get not only their independence back but their dignity as well.
  • No one day is the same – Variety is the spice of life as everyone keeps telling us and especially so when it comes to the career that you choose to do for the rest of your life. The wonderful thing about being an occupational therapy role is that you can find yourself in many different settings every single day including hospitals, schools, workplaces and in the community at large. You get to work with both kids, adults and people with certain disabilities and injuries.
  • A very stable career – This can offer you an opportunity to have a career that will always be in demand and there are currently not enough occupational therapists available all across Australia. We all need job security in this life and we also want to be to advance ourselves and to specialise in particular fields. You will get all of these when you become an occupational therapist.

In this job, you can learn many new things every single day including being a better communicator and there will be many challenges that you have to work around and to solve.
