Wearing contact lenses for the first time – a guide

Posted on January 16, 2023 By Becky

contact lenses

If you’re wearing contact lenses for the first time, you may be feeling a bit scared. After all, contacts are high-tech medical devices, and your vision is one of your most valued senses. But don’t worry—with the right information and some practice, anyone can learn how to wear contact lenses with ease. Here are four tips for first-time contact lens wearers that will help make the transition as smooth as possible.

Relax and Breathe

The first step in wearing contacts is relaxation. Before you even put them on, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that the inside of your eyelids is connected to the back of your eye. In other words, it isn’t possible for your lenses to slip anywhere. This should help put your mind at ease and make it easier to handle the contacts themselves.

Pick a Good Contact Lens

When shopping for contact lenses, it’s important to pick something that fits comfortably over your eyes. You should also only choose products recommended by a professional. Remember that every person has different needs when it comes to eye care, so don’t hesitate to ask questions before making a purchase. Taking these precautions will ensure that you get the best contacts for your eye type and lifestyle.

Keep Your Eyes Clean

Cleaning your lenses properly is critical for keeping them comfortable and healthy over time. You should always use fresh solutions when cleaning them, as well as rub them gently with a soft cloth or an approved cleaner before putting them in or taking them out of the case. Additionally, avoid using any harsh chemicals or sprays while handling the lenses since they can cause irritation or damage. Finally, never store them in tap water since this can introduce bacteria into the lens and cause an eye infection down the line.

Remove Your Contact Lenses Before Sleeping

It’s important not to wear your contacts while sleeping since this prevents oxygen from reaching your eyes and can build up bacteria. To prevent any discomfort or potential health risks, make sure to remove them before bed each night and store them in their case with a fresh solution until you’re ready to wear them again in the morning.

Wearing contact lenses for the first time doesn’t have to be scary—it just takes a bit of practice and patience. By following these four tips, you’ll be able to enjoy clear vision without worrying about any potential risks or discomfort associated with wearing contact lenses. With proper care and maintenance, you can keep your eyes healthy for years to come. So relax, breathe easy—and enjoy seeing life through new eyes!
