Top Tips For Working Remotely Posted on October 24, 2024 By Becky Whether you’re heading out on a business trip or simply need a break from the office, there are plenty of benefits tied to working remotely. In fact, various studies have found that working remotely can boost productivity and efficiency within the workplace, likely due to the fact that this is attributed to improved work-life balance. With that in mind, here are some top tips for working remotely! Use a VPN. Whether you’re running your own business or are employed by someone else, the chances are you do not have as secure an online set-up at home as you do in the office. However, this is not a suitable excuse should a data leak of any kind take place, meaning you should take extra precautions to ensure your online activity is as safe as possible, such as by using a fast vpn. This can also come in handy if you’re working from abroad and need to access region-specific content. Stick to your usual working hours. Remote workers are often given a little more flexibility when it comes to their schedules. This means that you may be tempted to clock in slightly later in favor of having a lie-in. While this is fine from time to time, you should avoid making a habit of this. This is because it often means you’re working late into the night to get everything done, working far beyond your expected hours. As such, you should try to stick to a standard 9-5 schedule where possible. If you’re working from abroad, be mindful of the fact that you may be working across different time zones and factor this into your schedule. Perfect your home office set-up. If you’re going to be working from home for a long period of time, you need to ensure that you create a productive home office. This way, you’re less likely to fall victim to distractions. Furthermore, while it may seem like the comfiest option, working from your bed is actually detrimental to your health in the long term. This is because it can disrupt your sleeping pattern, as you’ll start to associate your bedroom with work and stress as opposed to rest and relaxation. Stay connected to your colleagues. Regular interactions with colleagues are important for many reasons. It ensures that you all remain on the same page when working on collaborative projects and can improve your experience in the workplace. As such, you should be sure to remain in close contact with them when working remotely, such as by touching base through daily or weekly video calls and meetings. You should also try to meet in person fairly frequently, whether that’s to work together on a project or to catch up. Failing to do so could mean that you feel somewhat isolated, which is less than ideal when working as part of a larger team. Enhance your focus with music. If you find that you are constantly distracted when working from home, then you may find that listening to music is a great way to boost your focus. However, this does not mean you should indulge in a mid-work Karaoke session. Instead, you need to find music that creates a calming and relaxing atmosphere, such as ambient music. Alternatively, you may want to invest in sound-cancelling headphones. This is particularly beneficial if your home environment tends to be on the nosier side as it allows you to block out any potential distractions and focus on the task at hand. Thai way, you can ensure that your productivity levels do not drop as a result of working from home or working from a coffee shop or coworking space. Spend some time outside. Remote workers are sometimes less active than office workers since they no longer need to commute to and from work and are more likely to spend extended hours at home as a result of this. As such, you should be sure to spend as much time outdoors as you can, such as by going for a short walk on your lunch break or before starting work for the day. In short, while working remotely can prove to be challenging, there are plenty of steps that you can take to make this a little easier. This means that you’ll be able to enjoy the many benefits fo working remotely, such as enjoying a greater work-life balance or getting to spend more time with those around you, without having to take a step back in your career.
