Top Tips for Storing Cuddly Toys

Posted on June 13, 2024 By Becky

Cuddly toys hold a special place in our hearts. Whether they’re treasured companions from childhood or decorative pieces that add a touch of whimsy, keeping them safe and dust-free is important. But with overflowing toy boxes and limited space, storing these plush pals can be a challenge.

However, with a few clever tips and tricks and utilising self storage in Reading, you can keep your cuddly toys in tip-top condition, ready for snuggles or display whenever you need them.

Choosing the Perfect Place

Avoid attics, basements, and garages where extreme temperatures and humidity can damage fabrics and attract pests. Opt for cool, dry areas like a closet on a higher floor.

Direct sunlight can fade plush materials. Store your cuddlies away from windows or invest in light-blocking curtains for display areas.

Containment Counts

Ditch plastic bags! They trap moisture and can encourage mildew growth. Opt for breathable containers like cotton or linen bags, wicker baskets, or cardboard boxes.

Utilise vacuum storage bags for seasonal plushies, but be mindful. Overstuffing can flatten delicate features. Take them out and reshape them regularly.

Repurpose stylish suitcases or vintage trunks for a touch of decorative storage.

Keeping Cuddles Clean and Fresh

Check the care instructions on your cuddly toys. Most can be hand-washed or spot-cleaned. For a deeper clean, delicate cycle washes in mesh laundry bags are your friend.

Baking soda sprinkled on fur and left for an hour can absorb odors. Vacuum them afterward for a clean sweep.

If you suspect dust mites or other creepy crawlies, place your cuddly toys in a sealed plastic bag and pop them in the freezer for 24 hours.

Storage Solutions with Flair

Feeling crafty? Create a DIY stuffed animal beanbag chair! Fill a large, sewn fabric bag with your plushie pals for a comfy and functional storage solution.

Hang a net hammock in a corner for a whimsical display that keeps your cuddlies organised and dust-free.

Need Extra Space?

Even with clever tips for storing away your much-loved cuddly toys, there still isn’t enough space for all of them. Now Self Storage offers clean, secure storage units in a variety of sizes, perfect for storing seasonal items, outgrown clothing, or even a larger collection of cherished stuffed animals.

Declutter with Love

As your collection grows, consider rotating which cuddly toys are on display. Donate or sell gently used plushies to give them a new life and make room for new favorites.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure your cuddly companions stay safe, clean, and ready for cuddles for years to come. After all, a little love and organisation go a long way in keeping those fuzzy friends happy (and looking their best)!
