Top Tips For Finding Your Dream Home

Posted on August 23, 2025October 23, 2025 By Becky

Here’s an unfortunate truth: the process of moving home is at best a headache, and at worst, a nightmare.

This is because there’s simpy so much to do, from staging your current home to negotiating a fair deal when signing a contract. However, before you can even get to that stage, you need to have found a suitable place to live.

While this seems simple in theory, finding your dream home can feel like an impossible task. That is, until you stumble across this guide. Read on for some top tips on finding your dream home!

Know exactly what you are looking for. Being able to put what you are looking for into words is also incredibly helpful. This is because it means that you can start writing down a list of:

  • Everything you need in a home. (Location, number of bedrooms/bathrooms)
  • Everything you’d like in a home (Access to outdoor space, amenities such as a pool)

Being able to differentiate between needs and likes is important, as it means that you will be a little less picky moving forward. You can also share this list with real estate agents, who can then help you narrow down your options when it comes to finding properties to view. Otherwise, you may find that you attend viewings that simply aren’t a good fit. For some buyers, another great option is purchasing your own block of land and designing a home that perfectly matches your preferences. This approach gives you full control over layout, features, and style, from the number of rooms to the type of finishes you want. Checking out home and land package options, like Home Group Perth’s House and Land Packages, can also simplify the process by helping you choose a design that suits both your lifestyle and your budget.

Be realistic. While dreams and realism do not initially seem to belong in the same sentence, you do need to be realistic in terms of what you can afford and expect out of a property. This way, you won’t be wasting time viewing properties that, while stunning, are simply outside of your budget.

On a similar note, you should also be willing to attend viewings for properties that meet some (but not all) of your specifications. Remember, while a property may not tick all of your boxes right away, you can always carry out renovations over time until it does! This can also be a fun process, as it means that you get to ensure your home is a reflection of your personality and style. Not only that, but they may surprise you to begin with!

Consider building your own home. If you’ve spent endless months attending property viewings and still haven’t found a home that ‘WOWs’ you, then you may want to consider the possibility of partnering with local Architects to build your home from the ground up. While this is a little more expensive, it means that you’re getting a home that is purpose-built for you and your family, which is something that is hard to put a price tag on.

Final thoughts. In short, there are many steps that you can take to make the process of finding your dream home that much easier, from building it yourself to being as specific as possible during your initial search. This way, you can make sure that you are setting the scene for countless happy memories with your family and friends for years to come!
