Think You’re Unfixable? Think Again

Posted on July 14, 2025July 14, 2025 By Becky

We all have our quirks, virtues and flaws .That applies to pretty much everyone in the world, though of course certain aspects are entirely forgivable and understandable. We don’t chastise a child for being impatient or having flaws of that type, because they’re only little, and it’s our job as adults and parents to teach them the virtue of being better – and showing them how to do it.

Once we reach adulthood though, none of us are perfect. It’s important to remember that, because many people have a harsh diagnosis of themselves. Ironically, the people who think they’re completely fine and have nothing to improve are arguably the least self-aware people out there. That’s not to say you can only be a “real” person if you’re continually worried about your character, but a little healthy self-awreness is worthwhile.

However, unfortunately, due to the difficulties people have gone through and the flaws that can come as a result of that, it’s easy for some people who naturally give into self-effacing sentiment to think of themselves as unfixable. Here’s how that’s wrong:

You Have Amazing Capacity For Change

Your brain stays flexible throughout your entire life, which means you can develop new habits and ways of thinking at any age. People reinvent themselves all the time, sometimes in small ways and sometimes in major ways that surprise everyone around them. In your case, you might have been shy your whole life and then discover you actually enjoy public speaking, or you could be someone who always lost their temper and learn to stay calm under pressure.

The stories you tell yourself about who you are and what you’re capable of often become self-fulfilling prophecies, but they’re still just stories and you can change those at any times. Even Delray Brain Science tells us just how much is possible.

You’ll Have Learned From Your Hardest Lessons

Going through difficult experiences teaches you things about yourself and life that you simply cannot learn any other way. So for example, people who have struggled with addiction understand recovery in ways that others never will. Someone who has been through a messy divorce knows things about relationships and personal boundaries that happily married people might never grasp, even if it’s unfortunate you’ve been through that. Your worst moments often become the foundation for your greatest wisdom as they say, which is why it can soothe the trouble you’ve experienced if it makes you softer, more caring, and less entitled.

The pain you’ve experienced wasn’t wasted if it taught you something important about what you want to avoid in the future or what you value most, so don’t forget to pay attention to that.

You’ll Gain Fresh Perspective

Time and distance from your problems often give us solutions and insights that were impossible to see when you were in the thick of any issue. After all, new experiences and relationships also alter how you see yourself and what you think is possible. Meeting different kinds of people, traveling to new places, or just reading books and watching movies can expose you to ways of living and thinking that expand your sense of what’s available to you, so if you want to start there, start there. It can help.

With this advice, you’re certain to see just how much potential you have left.
