Things to Do Before Moving Day

Posted on August 21, 2024 By Becky

Moving day is never going to be 100% stress free, but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan it to be as easily as done as possible. You need to make moving days bearable as you can so that you can settle down and make sure that your home is going to look and feel fantastic. There are some tasks that you should be doing well in advance of moving day, but there are some extra tips that you can use to make sure that your moving day is smooth.Let’s take a look at the things that you could be doing before moving data to make sure that D-Day goes as well as it can.

  1. Get inspected. Before you move into your new house, it should be inspected. You should have somebody come in and check for pests and check the pipes to make sure that there are no leaks. The last thing you want to do is move into a home with a mold infestation, so check in for that too is important. Calling termite exterminators is imperative if you want your home still standing the day that you move in. Once you’ve got everything moved in, you’re going to feel way more comfortable knowing that there are no critters or creepy crawlies around.
  2. Get your Internet connected. Contacting your Internet service provider before you move is vital. You can use services like Connect Your Home to help you to save yourself from any inconvenience or frustration of living in a house with no Internet. Given that we rely on the Internet for something as simple as the TV these days means that you need to get started sorting this as early as possible.
  3. Make sure that your energy connections are up and running. When you move house you have to disconnect the energy in the previous tenants name and reconnect it in your own name. Companies such as Compare Energy can help you to figure out which you should be using so that you can have the best possible plan with the best possible provider. Connecting your energy is going to be easily done, but you need to make sure that you’ve done it with enough notice.
  4. Have a plan for the kids. Ideally, move into your new house on a school day. This way you can drop the kids off at school, get your new home moved into, and then when you pick them up from school again you can bring them to the new house. If you’re going to need more time, ask friends, family, or grandparents to pick up the kids and have them for a midweek sleepover so that they can have somewhere to sleep while you get the house set up for them.
  5. Update everybody with your new address. Before you move into the new house, make sure that you’ve explained to the bank and any other driving facilities and your boss where you’re going to be living. Changing your address shouldn’t take you very long. Just make a list of all the places that you need to change your address with and you should be good to go.
