As remote working becomes more and more the norm, people are finding their own grooves and habits that allow them to make the most of the flexibility they have been afforded. This includes deciding where they work from. Work from home doesn’t always necessarily mean you have to work from home, and, what’s more,  you don’t have to work in the same space every day. Here are some of the best remote working spots that are worth a little consideration.

Your Home Office

In terms of sheer productivity, focus, and comfort, setting up an organised home office is one of the best options, without a doubt. After all, you get to customise and set up the space however you want it, provided that you have the room that you need, and it requires zero commute. With good lighting, ergonomic furniture, knowing what rural internet options are out there (if you live in a rural area, of course)  and the right workstation setup, it can become your perfect workspace. However, not everyone has the room for the home office they want, and you can get cabin fever from spending the vast majority of your day at home. 

Co-Working Spaces

There has been a rise in these spaces that offer the structure and ambience of an office, but with the freedom of remote working. Co-working spaces are designed with productivity in mind, including high-speed internet and office amenities. They can also include meeting rooms that can help those setting up their own remote businesses, not to mention some networking opportunities with others using the space. The problem is that they can become rather costly, especially if you’re using them frequently, to the point that renting out your own office space may eventually be more economically feasible.

Cafes

If you need a change of pace from your regular environment or miss having a little ambient noise and the simple presence of other people, then cafes could be the space that you need. Working from coffee shops and cafes can help you push through mental blocks keeping you back at home, and that professionally-made cup of coffee can be a motivating factor to get you out of bed, as well. They aren’t all super well-suited for high-speed internet access, however, so you may want to bring your own mobile hotspot or use a VPN to ensure security on semi-public networks, too.

Becoming A Digital Nomad

If you feel a little too tied down to one spot and are feeling adventurous, going fully mobile as a digital nomad can be life-changing. With just a laptop and Wi-Fi, you can work from beaches, hotels, and cafes across the world. There are plenty of coworking hostels, Airbnbns, and even RVs that can serve as your office. However, a lot of planning is required to make this work, as you need consistent access to reliable internet as well as the ability to work super flexibly around travel logistics and time zone differences.

Finding where you work best can take a little trial and error. It’s worth trying at least some of those options laid out above, and remember, you don’t have to stick to working in one space day in, day out.
