Planning a Romantic Date in Bangkok? This is Your Guide

Posted on January 20, 2026 By Becky

You’ll be in Bangkok for the first time as a couple, so you want this trip to be extra special and memorable for your beloved. Luckily, this city is the perfect location for a romantic date because of all the things that you can do together while you’re here.

From booking the best outdoor restaurant in Bangkok to treating yourselves to an authentic Thai massage experience, here are some tips to help you plan the most romantic date you’ll have yet:

  • Dine under the stars at The Deck.

Bangkok is packed full of restaurants offering different experiences. But if you’re after a romantic dinner under the stars, you have to visit The Deck, the best outdoor restaurant in the city offering everything from hearty breakfasts to romantic dinners. Make sure to book a table in their outdoor dining area to get the best view of the city lights while you share a sumptuous meal prepared by The Deck’s team led by Damian Mackay.

  • Relax together with a couples’ spa experience.

You can’t be in Bangkok and not experience its famous Thai massage experience. In fact, spas here are some of the best in the world, so you need to include a couples’ massage with onsen on your list. This gives you the time to relax, unwind and spend uninterrupted time together while also recharging yourselves.

  • See the city from above at the Mahanakhon SkyWalk.

A lot of tourists still don’t know about this location, but it definitely deserves a spot on your list. The Mahanakhon Skywalk is the country’s tallest observation deck at 310 metres high where you get to see a beautiful 360-degree view of the Bangkok skyline while inside an indoor observation area with floor-to-ceiling windows. But if you’re both adrenaline junkies and don’t mind the height, you can go up the building’s 78th floor to experience the Glass Tray. This is a glass-floored deck that lets you walk literally above the city and take the most amazing photos. Hint: this could be the perfect spot for a proposal if you plan to pop the question in Bangkok!

  • Take a Thai cooking class together.

If your idea of a great date involves good food, visiting Bangkok is your chance to learn how to cook authentic Thai food together. You’ll easily find a lot of places offering Thai cooking classes where you’ll be taught to prepare the country’s famous dishes like curries, Pad Thai and of course, their green papaya salad. Just imagine learning a new skill together in the country where Thai food originated. This will surely be one of the most memorable experiences that you’ll have while visiting Thailand.

Of course, you can’t be in Bangkok and not experience its famous shopping scene. End your date with a stroll at one of the city’s famous night markets filled with everything from clothes to street food. Asiatique The Riverfront is a must-visit not only because of its shopping and food scene but also for its famous Ferris Wheel where you can share a romantic ride together. And for the rest of your itinerary, you can check some ideas here.

Extra Tips for Planning a Romantic Date in Bangkok

Book ahead (especially for sunset spots)

Rooftop bars, riverside restaurants, and popular spas can fill up fast — especially on weekends. Booking in advance helps you avoid last-minute stress.

Time your date around the heat

Bangkok can be hot and humid, so the most romantic times are usually:

  • late afternoon into sunset

  • evening/night markets

  • early mornings for quieter sightseeing

Dress for the vibe (and the photos)

Smart casual is a safe choice for most romantic restaurants and rooftops. Also bring comfy shoes if you’re doing markets or walking a lot.

Add a small surprise

A tiny extra can make the date feel unforgettable:

  • a bouquet from a local flower stall

  • a handwritten note

  • booking a private massage room

  • a planned dessert stop

Choose one “big moment” and keep the rest simple

Instead of cramming in loads of activities, pick one standout experience (like the SkyWalk or a riverfront dinner) and keep the rest relaxed.

Plan your transport so you don’t lose the mood

Bangkok traffic can be intense, so use:

  • BTS Skytrain for speed

  • Grab for comfort

  • tuk-tuk for fun (short distances only!)

Finish with a romantic view

Even if you don’t do a rooftop dinner, ending the night with a view is always a win — riverfront walks, skyline spots, or the Ferris wheel at Asiatique.

FAQs About Romantic Dates in Bangkok

What’s the most romantic thing to do in Bangkok as a couple?

A riverside dinner, a couples’ spa experience, and a sunset skyline view are some of the most romantic options — especially if you plan them in a relaxed order.

Is Bangkok a good destination for couples?

Yes! Bangkok is packed with romantic restaurants, luxury spas, rooftop views, and fun experiences like cooking classes and night markets — perfect for couples.

Do you need to book The Deck Bangkok in advance?

It’s a good idea, especially if you want an outdoor table with the best views. Booking ahead helps you avoid missing out during busy evenings.

What should couples wear for a romantic night out in Bangkok?

Smart casual works well for most date-night spots. Some rooftops and upscale venues may have dress codes (no flip-flops or sportswear), so it’s worth checking ahead.

What time is best for a romantic date in Bangkok?

Late afternoon through evening is ideal. You’ll get cooler temperatures, beautiful sunset views, and a more romantic atmosphere once the city lights come on.

Is the Mahanakhon SkyWalk worth it for couples?

Definitely — it’s one of the best places for skyline views and photos. The glass tray is a fun, memorable moment together (and yes, it’s a great proposal spot too!).

Are couples’ massages in Bangkok expensive?

Not always. Bangkok has everything from affordable massage shops to luxury spa experiences, so you can choose something that fits your budget.

Where can couples go shopping at night in Bangkok?

Night markets are perfect for a fun date vibe. Asiatique The Riverfront is a great option because it combines shopping, street food, riverside views, and the Ferris wheel.

How can we make a Bangkok date feel extra special?

Pick one “wow” activity (skyline view, river cruise, spa), add a small surprise, and keep the schedule relaxed so you can enjoy the moment together.
