Make the most of it: How to truly relax on your holiday Posted on October 10, 2024July 29, 2026 By Becky Going on holiday is supposed to make you relaxed and allow you to recharge by taking a break from the daily routine. But this is not always possible since you have to do a lot of preparation before heading outside your door. Booking accommodation, setting an itinerary, packing your luggage, making sure all your documents are in order, and the simple fact that you’re in an unfamiliar place can be quite stressful. That’s an unfortunate scenario that happens quite often, and so you end up returning home without feeling like you’ve been on holiday at all. In fact, you might get back to your everyday habits, feeling even more tired and stressed out than before you left. And since needing a vacation from your vacation is not a common thing to do, here are some ways you can guarantee that you actually get to relax and unwind during your next trip. Packing Packing your luggage is one of the most stressful parts of going on holiday. You have to decide what items you should bring depending on the weather, the activities you plan on doing, and how long your stay is going to be. The uncertainty can be quite paralysing, and leave you making up a lot of potential scenarios for what could go wrong. This is particularly the case if you generally don’t start packing until the very last minute since you’ll feel like you don’t have enough time left and just start grabbing things and stuffing them in your bag. To avoid this, make sure to start at least a couple of days ahead of departure. This will give you plenty of time to be more intentional about the things you bring along, change your mind, and add or remove things after more careful consideration. Comfort When you go on holiday, you should prioritise your comfort and well-being first and foremost. Otherwise, there’s no point in going on a holiday in the first place. To make your arrival at the airport more comfortable, look into the options available from Luton airport parking so that you won’t feel like you’re in a rush. Having the security of a smooth travelling experience means you won’t become stressed and can enjoy your trip much more. If you stay at a hotel the night before your flight, you’ll need a reliable parking service. The airport parking you choose should be within easy reach of the terminals and offer cost-effective prices. Having to pay a large amount of money before your holiday has even properly started will probably put a damper on your vacation, so it’s important to avoid that scenario. For those planning a getaway to the Canary Islands, booking a Ferienhaus La Palma (Holiday Home La Palma) ensures a comfortable and private stay, allowing you to fully unwind while enjoying the island’s beautiful surroundings. The outdoors If you spend all your days at work indoors, you should take your trip as an opportunity to spend a lot of time outside. The fresh air will do wonders for your mood and general well-being. Spending time outdoors also means you’re more likely to get some movement in, which can also improve your sleep quality. Being surrounded by nature has proven benefits for your mental health, being able to relieve the symptoms of chronic stress and anxiety. Going on a hike or taking a biking path can leave you physically tired, but it will alleviate mental fatigue and restore your concentration at the same time. That’s not to say that you must do strenuous workouts during your trip, as simply walking or having a picnic in a natural area will do wonders as well. Also, you should consider renting an RV and heading out on the road. This is the perfect way to experience fresh air in several different locations. Nature has a lot to offer, and being open and flexible when visiting new places can make your outdoor adventures even more rewarding. You can do your research and find great RV parks where you can park to get off the road whenever you feel tired and need some recuperation. Ditch technology The people who get upset and become moralising when they see someone on their phone are typically considered to be quite obnoxious by those around them, but taking a break from social media and devices has provable benefits, such as leaving you more time to focus on other activities, allowing you to become more connected with the present moment, be more productive and improve your mental health. Since you are probably used to reading countless messages on a daily basis from different groups and receiving constant notifications from the various apps on your phone, a technology detox might sound uncomfortable, but you don’t have to forbid yourself from looking at your phone altogether. Instead, try to limit the time you spend scrolling and enjoy the things you’re doing at the present moment. Dolce far niente Have you ever heard of this Italian saying before? It translates to “the sweetness of doing nothing” and refers to the beauty and necessity of being idle sometimes and not doing anything. Although it can sound like there’s nothing simpler in the world, this is actually quite a difficult art to master. After all, schedules are incredibly hectic nowadays, and it may feel like you are not being productive unless you have a lot of things you need to do. But taking a step back from all of that and just enjoying your surroundings can be incredibly therapeutic. Just think about it. When was the last time you just sat down and relaxed without thinking about all the chores you had to do? If you can’t remember ever doing this in the first place, it might be a sign to give it a try during your next trip. Local delights If you’re travelling to a place far away from home that has an entirely different culture, it would be an absolute shame if you didn’t take the time to really soak up the local culture and learn new things. Having an educational task to deal with can help you stop thinking about the workload you need to finish when you’re back at the office or the emails you need to answer. Meeting new people and learning new things is suitable for your cognitive abilities, and being in a different environment will change your thinking patterns since you need to adjust to new things. In this sense, travelling becomes a way to test and improve your mental skills. The key to being relaxed during your travels is to remain anchored to the present moment and enjoy what you’re doing. It is the best way to have a truly fulfilling time and feel refreshed when you return home.
