How To Feel Less Fearful After Diagnosis Posted on January 27, 2025 By Becky A health diagnosis can turn your world upside down. However, it’s also important to recognize that now is the time you will come across the most empathy, compassion and good natured individuals you have ever encountered. Challenges like this tend to bring the best out of everyone, even when the challenge seems so shocking to deal with. Keeping that in mind can give you the hope and energy you need to keep going day to day. However, it’s also important to accept that you may be feeling overwhelmed, and even fearful. You’re not weak for having these feelings, quite the opposite, it means you’re experiencing natural human emotions and have given yourself the permission to feel them too. But of course, fear, doubt and worry aren’t pleasant emotions. It’s okay if you’d like to ease them a little, and to feel a more confident and welcoming of your future. In this post, we’ll discuss some means via which you’re most likely to do that: Speak To Your Fears It’s absolutely okay to be scared, worried or nervous. There is nothing to be ashamed of here. If you just bottle those feelings up and assume you’re inferior if you dare to speak of them, you just add shame to the pile. For that reason, it’s good to talk to someone impartial, be that a counselor or your doctor, perhaps a family member if you can trust them not to try and “correct” the issue, but instead let you vent. Keeping a journal can help too. Sometimes that’s all we need to feel our best. Rely On The Resources Available It’s good to work on any eligibilities you have, be that for added disability support, community nursing services that can make a world of difference, or even heading to a local community meeting for people with your condition each month. This way you can see that you’re not alone, you never were alone, and you won’t be in the future either. That also suggests that any development in the future, ideal or less so, can be shared and feel less emotionally turbulent to go through. It can also give you peace of mind to see others handle their trouble, and you might inspire others too. Consider Activism Or Awareness Some find that while life has changed, it gives them a new purpose. For example, if you’ve lost mobility, you might find it hard to come to terms with. But you may also have a unique insight into the world from this new vantage point, and perhaps share your impressions. For instance, you might make it known about your local train station and the lack of facilities for disabled individuals. Sometimes having a focus like this can give us purpose, and it really does make a difference. With this advice, we hope you can more easily fear less fearful after diagnosis, even if understanding uncertainty can promote these feelings. Let yourself process them, ask for help when you need it, and you’ll find yourself enjoying inner reserves of strength you didn’t know you had. We wish you the best of luck for the future.
