How To Decide Who You Are Going To Hire Next

Posted on July 16, 2025 By Becky

Are you expanding your business team? If so, then you should always consider who you are planning to hire next. The right hire can be the secret weapon for your company and help you rise far ahead of key competitors in your chosen field or industry. Here are some basic steps that you should always keep in mind throughout this process.

Know Who You Need

First, you need to make sure that you know who you need to hire. This will include the job title, the role, and everything in between. Ideally, the picture you have of the person that you need to hire should be as clean and clear as possible. Essentially, what you need to keep in mind is the ideal person for the role and then work back from this.

Invite People To Interview

Next, you should make sure that you are inviting great candidates to come and interview for potential positions. By encouraging people to interview, you can make sure that you are getting to know them. You might even want to consider a working interview. This is a great way to determine whether someone is going to fit well with your team in an office environment.

Carry Out Personality Tests

Now, this one might be met with a bit of controversy. However, it can be really super fun and interesting to find out which personality traits your employees have. If you don’t all match then there could be quite a few office politics going on. However, the results of psychometric assessments isn’t a valid reason not to hire someone. Try them out yourself as the results may shock you.

Check References

One thing you must do when you are going through the hiring process is check references from past employment. There is nothing stopping people telling fibs on their resumes and applications. By checking references and ringing referees, you can check the information they have supplied is correct. The last thing you want to do is hire someone who specifies they can do SEO work and then not have a clue how to do anything. They can bring down the entire team as everyone will be helping them rather than doing their own work.

Be Welcoming

Lastly, if you decide to hire some new people then they may be feeling ever so slightly anxious about starting with your company. It can always be daunting being the new person so make sure you and your team are warm and welcoming. If your new hires don’t feel welcome then there is absolutely nothing stopping them from leaving. This not only leaves you high and dry with no support, but you are also at risk of experiencing a high employee churn rate.

We do hope you found this helpful and it gave you some key ideas on how you can decide who to hire next. It is always nice to keep on top of new employees, just to ensure they are happy and feeling well supported.
