Get Your Dream Job Without Excess Effort

Posted on December 17, 2025 By Becky

Stories of people treating finding and applying for jobs like a full-time job in itself are all over the internet. While it’s no secret that the market is tough, especially for new graduates right now, there are some effective things you can do to secure your dream job while minimizing the effort you put in. Read on to find out what they are.

Build your network

First of all, if you want to secure your dream job, it can really help to have some robust contacts in that field.  Indeed, such people can help you get seen by interviewers,  tell you who to target,  and even give you a recommendation that will help you stand out above your competitors.

However, the proviso is that the people in your network need to be genuine connections that you have built up over time.  Just adding them on social media sites isn’t enough. You need to offer some proper value or connection to the other person in this case.  For example,  you could add value by offering certain skills you have,  or you could create genuine connections by asking for mental mentorship.  In this way, you are much more likely to build connections that are going to help you secure the job you want.

Finesse your CV/portfolio

Whether your chosen career requires a resume or a portfolio or both,  it’s important to spend some time truly finessing your offering.  This means going beyond basics such as checking for spelling and grammatical errors,  and showing the real value you could provide to a company.

In particular, this means demonstrating your skills and their level,  as well as including specific examples of where you saved or made a previous business.

Use specialist job boards

Another smart way to get your dream job without excessive effort is to focus on your search.  What that means is, instead of going on a general job board, you track down the best ones for your specific sector.

For example, you can use sites like this AeroTechCareers aviation careers platform,  if you are looking for a job in the aerospace industry.  Indeed, not only do they provide excellent advice on finding work in this sector,  but they also have access to the latest roles, which can be filtered to refine your search even more.

Volunteer

One thing that is supremely valuable when looking for your dream job is showing that you have the necessary experience in your field.  If you have not already managed to go into this through placement,  then considering volunteering in your sector can be a good idea.

In fact, by volunteering, you demonstrate not only that you have the direct experience that is needed,  but also the passion and dedication to pursue your career as well.

Perfect your interview technique

Last of all, if you want the best chance of securing your dream career, you need to make sure that you have your interview technique perfected.  To do this, you will need to ensure you can control the interview.  Usually, this means asking the interviewer to describe the specific needs of the job, which means you can then give examples of your experience and accomplishments for each one.
