From Paris to Palm Springs: Thanksgiving Trips Worth the Carry-On

Posted on October 15, 2025March 6, 2026 By Becky

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to mean chaos, cooking marathons, or pretending you enjoy football. More women are realizing the holiday is the perfect excuse to step away, not lean in. Whether that means sipping wine under the Eiffel Tower or reading by the pool in Palm Springs, Thanksgiving travel can be less about escaping family and more about redefining what the holiday even looks like.

Why Thanksgiving Travel Makes Sense

Flights are packed, airports are loud, and still, there’s something freeing about walking away from your usual routine. Thanksgiving sits in that sweet spot before year-end burnout hits, giving just enough time for a mental reboot. Women who plan these getaways aren’t running from tradition so much as rewriting it—trading stuffing for spa treatments, and Black Friday lines for sunrises in a new city.

There’s also something symbolic about traveling during a holiday built on gratitude. The whole point is to pause, reflect, and appreciate, and sometimes that’s easier to do when you’re not elbow-deep in pie crusts or explaining your life choices to relatives.

Where the Sunshine Calls

If you’re craving warmth, California is an easy win. Palm Springs this time of year is golden-hour perfection—mountain views, mid-century design, and pools that demand a good swimsuit cover up for those lazy brunches by the water. The desert air has a way of clearing your mind, and it’s only a short flight from most major cities.

For those wanting to mix sunshine with adventure, Tulum still has its charm if you know where to go. Skip the influencer spots and head toward quieter beaches where yoga mats outnumber selfie sticks. You can toast Thanksgiving with grilled fish and a view of turquoise waves instead of a mountain of mashed potatoes.

And if you’re in the mood for something domestic yet different, Key West offers just enough kitsch to keep things fun. It’s warm, walkable, and full of stories you’ll never tell your coworkers—but that’s half the point.

Packing With Intention

Packing for Thanksgiving travel is an art form, and it starts with editing. The goal isn’t to show up with options—it’s to arrive with confidence. A few wardrobe basics can carry you across climates and plans. Think breathable linen for warm days, a soft cashmere wrap for cooler evenings, and a pair of jeans that somehow look good after sitting on a plane for six hours.

Shoes matter too. You’ll thank yourself for packing sneakers that can pass for stylish and sandals that can handle walking tours or long dinners. And don’t underestimate the power of one solid crossbody bag that keeps your passport, lip balm, and sanity in place.

When everything in your suitcase works together, you save yourself from the hotel-floor wardrobe meltdown that tends to happen around day two. The secret? Pack like someone who’s done this before.

European Escapes Worth the Jet Lag

If your soul leans more toward cobblestone than coastline, Paris during Thanksgiving has a quiet beauty. The tourist crowds have thinned, the air smells faintly of roasted chestnuts, and you can actually get a table at a café without negotiating in broken French. Thanksgiving dinner might be duck confit instead of turkey, but somehow that feels like an upgrade.

Or head to Lisbon, where you can enjoy sunlit rooftops, seafood that ruins you for anything back home, and locals who know the secret to living slowly. The city practically hums with ease, and you’ll find gratitude in every espresso cup.

And if you want a little Old World charm without crossing the Atlantic, Quebec City comes close. Stone streets, cozy inns, and a European vibe that doesn’t require converting your dollars. You’ll still get that feeling of being somewhere else—without the jet lag hangover.

Why Traveling Alone Feels Right This Year

Thanksgiving solo travel has gone from brave to normal. More women are booking trips just for themselves, finding that solitude doesn’t equal loneliness. There’s something deeply restorative about sitting in a new place, surrounded by languages you don’t speak, realizing that gratitude can exist outside of tradition.

It’s a kind of independence that isn’t loud or performative—it’s personal. The freedom to eat when you want, explore at your own pace, and redefine what “home for the holidays” actually means.

An Ending That Feels Like a Beginning

Maybe this year, gratitude looks less like gathering around a table and more like standing in a new city with your heart wide open. Thanksgiving travel doesn’t erase tradition; it just reshapes it into something that fits the woman you’ve become. Wherever you go, let the holiday remind you that freedom, comfort, and a little curiosity might be the best kind of thanks you can give yourself.
