Effective Management Support: What You Need To Do Posted on January 21, 2025 By Becky Many workplace issues, discrepancies, and errors can often be rectified by ensuring that you have a cohesive team. This is a standard that every business owner understands, and it brings about a sense of optimism for potential improvements. However, if your management team isn’t fostering a healthy working environment within their department and isn’t playing ball, then it is highly likely that anything positive you have from those underneath the management will be eradicated sooner rather than later. Running a successful company requires you to have a successful management team in place. Just as water flows downhill, so too do results and standards. If the ‘heat’ or pressure from the management team is not conducive to achieving the best results, then it’s highly likely you won’t be getting any. Instead of trying to influence from the bottom up when addressing issues within your company, start by leading from the top down. Let the positive aspects of your leadership style infiltrate to higher levels for a better impact. Improve Communication You need to make sure your managers know what is expected of them and that they know how to best communicate this expectation to their teams to deliver the results. Poor communication does not bode well for any business, but clear communication can keep the channels clear and flowing with the right information. This reassures everyone that they are on the same page and moving in the same direction. Provide Resources You need to provide your managers with the resources they need to do their jobs properly and support those working under them. If they don’t have what is necessary to work, you won’t help them reach their goals or exceed expectations and standards. Understanding what you assign to your managers and delivering this to them is a way of supporting and empowering them. Training Even management requires training, and an effective Supervisor and Manager Training Program will facilitate better results and ensure everyone is on the same page regarding the standards you expect and how you want them to conduct themselves. The more equipped they are with the knowledge and tools to be good managers, the more likely they will be to put this into action. Feedback If your managers aren’t given feedback on what they’re doing, then how will they know they’re doing what you want or what the company needs to operate efficiently? Talk to them about what you like about what they do and how they do it, where they can make changes, what they could be doing better and so on. Without feedback, it’s highly likely they won’t be making changes and think things are going well as they’re not being told otherwise, which can cause division and friction within teams if there’s not a healthy working environment. Offer feedback, talk through their performance, and help them be the best they can be. Encourage Teamwork Not just between your managers and their immediate teams but between the management team as a whole. If they all work together on the same page and collaborate, you can deliver better results, improve efficiency, and elevate standards. Managers will rely on each other to complete the workload so they can help and improve each other and support any weaknesses or gaps in knowledge or skills between teams.
