Easy Ways to Keep Your Business Afloat Financially Posted on December 10, 2024 By Becky The last thing you want as a business owner is to be worrying about money. Instead, you want to see your business thrive, bring in more customers and ultimately, become a bigger business. However, if you’re not careful with your business finances, it can be easy to fall into debt. The issue you might be facing here is that to make money, you also need to spend money – whether that’s on materials or payroll, money does need to be spent somewhere. Luckily, your business finances don’t have to be something that plagues your life. Let’s take a look at these easy ways to keep your business afloat financially. Always be aware of where you’re money is going This might seem like a really obvious point to make, but do you know exactly where your money is going at all times? There’s a good chance you might have given a trusted team member a credit card and there are subscriptions you’re not aware of. And, while you trust that team member, it’s important for you to know exactly what is going where, when and why. Look through recent statements and create a timeline/calendar so that you’re always aware of money being moved around. Doing this will also allow you to cut out any payments that you no longer need or use, which will help save your business money. Check on those incoming payments! When thinking about your business finances, it’s important not to forget about those incoming payments too! While you might have an idea of what your store makes, are there any other aspects of your business that make money? Did you choose easy recurring billing options so that customers could sign up to a monthly service you provide? Be sure to check all areas of incoming payments so that you can align them with what’s going out. Knowing what’s incoming can also be very useful if you need to make payments. Cut back to save money One of the best ways to help your business finances is to make sure that you’re not overspending in the first place. This might mean cutting back on office supplies or switching to a cheaper one. Or, it might even mean scaling back the Christmas party so that you can put the money to good use – your business. Another great way to save on expenses is by having people work from home. Wherever that is possible, consider sending people to work remotely to save on the costs of running your office. Outsource where possible Finally, payroll is one of the biggest expenditures for many business owners. However, when there are roles that need filling, what option do you have? That’s where outsourcing is a lifesaver. It allows you to hire for the role until the job at hand is complete without the commitment of hiring a new employee! And, you can keep that freelancer as a contact to use again in the future, which will continue to save you money on payroll!
