Boost Kerb Appeal: Essential External Property Upgrades for Every Homeowner

Posted on March 24, 2025March 17, 2026 By Becky

Whether you’re selling up or not, upgrading the exterior of your home is worth careful thought and planning. Take a look at some of the projects you might consider to boost your kerb appeal and maybe, your property value.

New roof

Whether it needs minor repairs or a complete overhaul, there’s no doubt that the roof of your property makes a big impact on its external appearance. For potential buyers, the roof’s condition is of major concern as it can be a very expensive repair.

However, it’s not always the case that you need to replace the entire roof and sometimes replacement tiles, new guttering or repairs to the chimney, is all that is needed. If the roof itself is sound, it may just need a clean to remove moss and algae. So, consider this to boost your home’s kerb appeal.

Driveway renovation

Your driveway is the introduction to your home. It provides visitors or prospective buyers with their first impression of the property, so it’s important to keep it looking good. Although a renovated driveway may not increase your property value it will certainly enhance its appeal, making it more marketable. Working with experienced tarmac contractors can help ensure a smooth, durable finish that enhances both the appearance and longevity of your driveway.

If your driveway is in good condition, a jet wash may be all that is required to make it more presentable. However, if your driveway surface is beginning to deteriorate with age, it may be time to replace it. The new driveway cost will depend on the surface material that you choose, such as tarmac, concrete, gravel resin or block paving as well as the area to be covered.

Landscape your garden

One of the most fun and long lasting ways to improve the external appearance of your home is to landscape your garden. You could either do this yourself or hire a professional landscaping company to design and create your new garden.

Although the outlay may seem expensive, using a professional landscaper can save you not only time but also money. Their experience and knowledge will ensure that you make the most of your garden and maximise every square foot. It can also spare you making expensive mistakes, if you’re not horticulturally minded. You may also want someone to come in and tidy up your existing plants and trees, so consider Reliable Tree Pruning Specialists to ensure your trees are looking their best.

A professionally landscaped garden will help your home stand out from surrounding properties making it more marketable and potentially raising its value.

Replacement windows

If your windows are starting to look their age or letting in draughts, it may be time to replace them. On average, windows last around 15 to 20 years so if yours have been in situ for longer than this, it may be time for something new.

Windows serve several functions, from letting in natural light to providing energy efficiency through double or triple glazing and adding to the aesthetic of your property. New windows can hugely improve the kerb appeal of your house, improve your home security and help to lower your energy bills.

Improve your fence

Your fencing is front and centre when it comes to the external appearance of your home. A well maintained and sturdy fence provides good security for your property but also enhances its aesthetic. Nothing says neglect like a dilapidated or broken fence with peeling paint.

The type of fencing that you have should complement the style of your property. For example, a country home suits a rustic looking fence whereas a town property works better with more modern styles. Whatever kind of fencing you have, it should be kept well repaired and painted or stained to preserve, protect and enhance its appearance.
