A Flying Trip To Glasgow: What to see and where to go

Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest city, has so much to offer to those looking for a night or weekend trip away.

The bustling city has plenty of culture both in terms of history and things to do of an evening.

This round up will hopefully have some ideas for everyone, from the wanderers to the history lovers to the big-night-out-ers.

So, let’s get to know Glasgow.

Parks around every corner

As one of the professional hubs in Scotland, when you arrive in Glasgow you’ll see the huge office buildings before anything else.

But that’s not to say that the city is lacking in natural beauty, as it has lots of parks dotted about which are well maintained and great to walk through.

While there are the Botanics and hidden-gem green spaces dotted around everywhere, here are the two big ones

Kelvingrove Park

Kelvingrove is a large park situated in the city’s west end.

From confident (but very friendly) squirrels skipping about and a riverside walk, it is a stunning destination.

It’s rarely quiet, and on sunny days much of the city will find their way to the park (often with barbecue in hand).

The park takes not much longer than an hour to walk through and around.

While you’re there: The park is right next to two of Glasgow’s most beautiful buildings, the Kelvingrove museum and Glasgow University Campus. A wander around the park and though the campus is well topped off with a coffee at the museum cafe, and a whiz around some of its fantastic exhibitions.

Glasgow Green

This park is on the Clyde and it is a lot more open-spaced.

It has grand monuments including a 130 metre column and a huge arch that’s great for photos.

The green is a fantastic walk if you’ve been fortunate enough to visit Glasgow when there is good weather.

While you’re there: Another one for the history lovers; the People’s Palace is a museum at the Green that is dedicated to the history of Glasgow’s working class, it’s currently closed for refurbishment with plans to reopen in 2027.

There’s excellent food everywhere

After all, Chicken Tikka Masala was born in Glasgow!

From the Italians and street food restaurants to the many bars on Bath St that punch way above their weight when it comes to food menus, it’s hard to take a wrong turn if you’re looking for good food.

A couple places to highlight:

• Mowgli is an Indian Street Food spot where you can try loads of great curries in one sitting
• Nippon Kitchen is another city-centre gem with great sushi dishes
• If you’re in the west end, it’s Italians galore, but a real standout is Joia
• Slouch is a bar that serves an incredibly nice Pizza

A night on the town

If you’re going out for a night on the town, it’s probably best to stick to two of the three city hotspots—all of which you can easily make a night of in their own right!

There’s the Merchant City which is right next to the City Centre which you can do both in one night, and there’s the West End.

You could maybe manage a few drinks in a City Centre pub and make your way into the West End through Finnieston, but realistically the West End has plenty to offer on its own.

A couple of ideas for the next morning

The Tennent’s tour

On a night out you will see a lot of red ‘T’s outside venues and you might wonder what that’s all about.

Well, you can book a visit to Tennent’s Wellpark Brewery to learn all about Scotland’s iconic beer that’s been brewed in some form since the 1500s.

The bridge walk

If you’re up for a quieter day, you can also do the bridge walk.

There are lots of bridges across the Clyde river and zigzagging through them will take you to great tourist staples like the transport museum, the science centre and the green!#
