Plan Some Opportunities to Waste a Bit of Energy

This is for all the parents out there! When you’ve got kids in the car and there’s a long journey ahead, those hours on the road are going to feel endless for them. 

You might not find them all that enjoyable yourself, but you’re an adult – and adult brains are much better at knowing what a long time actually is! Kids, on the other hand, can complain after only half an hour of being strapped in and having to look out of the window. 

And that’s why you’ll want to include a few ‘run around stops’ on your road trip schedule. 

Somewhere like an RV ground, where you can hookup the vehicle for a few hours (or even the night), and then let the kids use the park as more of a playground. Some parks may even have an actual playground! 

That way, when you get back in the car when you’re ready to go, the kids are more likely to want to take a nap. And that can make things a little less hectic for you up front. 

Let Everyone Use Headphones

They’re the ticket you need to plug into your own little world, and that’s the kind of invaluable item to have on a family road trip. For teenagers and young adults in particular. 

But both yourself and any younger kids can use headphones too, whether they’re playing on their Nintendo Switch or you want to listen to an audio book on your phone. 

The driver (if that’s not you) then has free reign over the car radio, and can play whatever they like while everyone else is plugged in. 

Make Some Activity Packs

Yes, for both the kids and the adults! 

Their packs can have craft materials, stickers, and colouring pens in. Yours can have a good puzzle book, an interesting magazine, and an eye mask, just in case you want to have a nap yourself. 

And both packs can have little snack pouches in, just in case anyone gets peckish before you stop for lunch. 

Road trips do have their boring moments, for sure. But when you’re all crammed into the vehicle together, you can’t let those get on top of you. Stay entertained with a few more stops, headphones, and some fun activities.
