5 Essential Tips for Staying Hydrated During Your Workouts Posted on August 2, 2025January 15, 2026 By Becky Workouts are often at times, very intense activities, and it’s important that while it can be helpful to work out for your body, you also want to make sure it’s well prepared and nourished as such. With every workout you do, it’s not only how you prepare for it but what you do during and after, too. Hydration is a big part of making sure you stay fit and healthy, whilst also getting the most out of these workouts. Beyond plain water, hydration drinks can also support your body by replenishing fluids and electrolytes lost during intense training sessions. Choosing the right hydration approach can make a noticeable difference in performance and recovery. Here are five essential tips for staying hydrated during your workouts. 1. Pre-hydrate It’s a good idea to pay attention to what hydration you’re giving to your body before the workout begins. This is an important step in hydrating and will also ensure you get the most out of your exercise. Begin hydrating before you work out by drinking water throughout the day and in the lead-up to the workout. By starting your exercise sessions properly hydrated, you’re likely to get a lot more out of them as a result. 2. Keep hydrated during your workouts Staying hydrated during your workouts is important, and you shouldn’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. That’s often a late indicator that your body needs water, and is often because you’re dehydrated. Drinking regularly can help to maintain your water intake levels and hopefully keep you more energized as you navigate your way through the workout. 3. Be wary of what fluids you’re consuming Fluids are something you want to be aware of, and in what ways you’re consuming them. For example, these Virtue electrolytes hydration sachets are a great way to get a lot of hydration into your body in the best way possible. For any workouts under an hour, water is a good option, but you might want to consider the above sachets that are helpful for replacing that lost hydration over a longer and more intense workout. 4. Listen to your body Whenever you’re working out, it’s important that you’re listening to your body. Paying attention to your body’s signals for dehydration and thirst will help you address that need sooner rather than later. Don’t ignore it, as it’s likely going to run your body into the ground and cause issues as a result. Keep an eye on the color of your urine and be sure to increase water intake if it’s darker than usual. 5. Don’t forget hydrating foods too Hydrating foods are also a great way to get more water and fluids into your body. From fruits and vegetables with high water content, you’re going to keep your body in a much more efficient way, so that you can continue to get everything you need out of the workout in question. Bring with you a few snacks to enjoy after you work out, or perhaps even during your workout, so long as it doesn’t cause you any discomfort. Staying hydrated during workouts is incredibly important. Therefore, it’s worth using these tips to get the most out of your workouts via hydration.
