Rowhill Grange Junior Suite

Rowhill Grange Junior Suite Review: Is It Worth the Upgrade?

Posted on December 4, 2024December 4, 2024 By Becky

The other weekend I was lucky enough to experience a birthday night away courtesy of my fantastic husband at the renowned Rowhill Grange Spa & Utopia Spa in Kent, where we enjoyed fabulous food, treatments at the Utopia spa, and also a very lovely night’s sleep in a Junior Suite. Therefore, I thought it only fair that I should do a review of a Junior Suite for you, and then you can make your mind up as to whether or not you think it’s worth the upgrade from a regular double room!

First Impressions

Nestled in the Kent countryside, Rowhill Grange is certainly an attractive building and on arrival had a cosy, festive feel (we stayed very end of November). But what of the rooms inside?

The extra space is obvious as soon you enter a Junior Suite (we were given the Amaryllis room). The decor is less like a hotel room and more like a boutique living space, something that I’m never going to complain about. What I liked is the fact that the vibe was quite ‘gender neutral’ (if you can call a room that?!) and didn’t feel too feminine, but nor would a guy feel out of place here, what with the darker, perhaps more masculine tones? The darker colours with pops of orange and gold, combined with warm wood furniture, gave a cosy feel, and when walking in the suite, the first impression felt definitely quite luxurious. There’s no doubt that entering the living area first before hitting the bedroom is certainly a big ‘plus’ for a junior suite over a standard bedroom, which brings me to…

The Extra Space

The Junior Suite most definitely has a lot more space than a regular room, with the aforementioned separate lounge area where you can relax. If you want to hang out with a book, or one of the classy interiors and lifestyle magazines provided, or just need a little bit more room to stretch out, it’s a big improvement on a standard room. It’s also a nice extra as a couple to have a little extra space to unwind together without being restricted to just a bedroom space.

The Bathroom

Now the bathroom is usually the hidden superstar of a hotel room, and to be honest I have mixed reviews here of the bathroom in our Rowhill Grange Junior Suite. The actual bathroom was HUGE, which was a definite thumbs up, with a bath, separate shower (which was great, very powerful) and double sink unit (something I always love and would love to replicate at home, if only we had more room!). It felt very spacious, with the large mirrors giving an extra perspective of space and light, and I also loved the Victorian-style cast iron radiator. The only real complaint I have here is that if I’m being honest the tiling and chrome fixtures felt a little dated and tired. Nothing major, but I feel for junior suite standard that the bathrooms could probably do with a bit of an overhaul in a couple of years time. Still, they were clean, and again, the size of the bathroom was a nice touch, and much better than a pokey en-suite.

Perks and Extras

The Junior Suite doesn’t disappoint when it comes to extras and those bits that help to elevate your stay, and Rowhill Grange has everything you could need to ensure every guest has an enjoyable time. These include soft bathrobes and slippers, a great coffee machine (I think this was a Nespresso?), large TV and bottled water.

The Price Tag

And the upgrade is not free, of course. Price: depending on season and availability, you will probably spend 20-30% more for a Junior Suite than a regular room.

Who Should Consider the Upgrade?

Couples on a Romantic Break: The big space and added comfort make it perfect for events or romance breaks.
Guests Staying For More Than One Night: If you are staying longer than a couple nights, then the extra room will come as a blessing.
Spa Lovers: The large, spa-inspired bathroom of the suite goes very well with the Utopia Spa’s relaxation.

Who Might Skip the Upgrade?

Short Stays: If you are visiting for a single night or just need to be out most of your time, a regular room might do the trick, although having said that, we stayed only one night and it was still fabulous! Just might not be necessary for one night.
Travellers On A Budget: The Junior Suite is beautiful but not for everyone, especially if you’re on a budget.

Final Verdict on Junior Suite

A Rowhill Grange Junior Suite is definitely Luxurious, Comfortable and Stylish, and I’d say personally that the upgrade is a worth it if you want a really special experience. But, if you are only on a short trip, or if you plan to spend most of your time in the spa or elsewhere, the ordinary rooms are also great.

Rowhill Grange Junior Suite

It’s really up to you and your needs. For those looking for plenty of room, some oomph, and a bathroom you will be thinking about well after your visit, choose the Junior Suite.
