Dressing Well: 5 Tips to Increase Comfort in Your Clothing Choices

Posted on October 25, 2024January 20, 2026 By Becky

Let’s be honest — it feels great to look stylish, but it also feels pretty great being comfortable, too. In many cases, it feels like we’re forced to choose between what we enjoy wearing and what will have people turning heads as we walk on by.

But who says that we have to choose? We don’t think you do. There are plenty of ways to both look and feel great in our clothing. In this post, we’ll run through some handy tips for doing just that.

Choose Comfortable Fabrics

You can’t wear uncomfortable fabrics and expect to be comfortable. You might look good, but comfortable? Nope. The key to being stylish and comfortable at the same time is to focus on materials that are known for their comfort qualities.

You’ll find it much easier to feel comfortable if you’re wearing clothing made from linen, cotton, or blends. Essentially, you’re looking for materials that are soft to the touch and which have a bit of a stretch to them. You’ll need to spend slightly more for these materials than you would for, say, polyester, but it’s a worthwhile investment.

Invest in Comfortable Underwear

Many people think they’re wearing uncomfortable clothing, but they’re not — they’re wearing uncomfortable underwear. You could spend all the money in the world on the softest materials for your clothing, but if you’re not also wearing comfortable underwear, then there’ll be an upper limit to how time can pass before you’re ready to get home and into your pyjamas.

Your underwear won’t be on display to the public, but that doesn’t mean that you can get away with wearing old, tattered items made from low-quality materials. Increase your budget so you can buy quality underwear, and you’ll notice the difference.

Managing Temperatures

Wearing comfortable clothing isn’t just about the touch of the material on your skin. It’s also about how well it can manage the weather. Layering with comfortable jackets and coats makes it much easier to regulate body temperature throughout the day, keeping you warm in cooler weather without feeling restricted or bulky.

Comfortable clothing will keep you warm in the winter, and cool in the summer, such as wearing elegant abayas. In the winter, focus on wool products; they’re excellent at insulating warmth. If you’re travelling to a hot region, then focus on light, loose clothing, such as an abaya dress. Remember the old saying; there’s no such thing as cold/hot weather, only inappropriate clothing!

Don’t Forget Your Feet!

You might look fantastic in heels, but you’re probably not comfortable. Save those shoes for special occasions; on a day-to-day basis, you’ll want to wear footwear that you have no problem walking around in all day. After all, it doesn’t matter how good you look — if you’re frowning because your feet are tired/in agony, then you’re not going to be a happy bunny.

Let Your Personal Style Rule

Finally, a highly underrated way to feel comfortable in your clothing is to simply wear whatever you want. If you like wearing floral designs, then wear them. If you’re happiest in all black, or wearing jeans all the time, then let that guide your style purchases. There’s no one on earth more comfortable than someone who’s happy in their own skin.
