The importance of a healthy scalp

Posted on April 9, 2024 By Becky

The scalp is a far more important area of the body than too many of us care to acknowledge. Those who still do have hair on their head (not this author, unfortunately) routinely take steps to maximise the health, and the look of their remaining hair, but often overlook the importance of maintaining a healthy scalp beneath that hair.

Not properly maintaining the scalp leads to several potential issues, such as:

  • Dandruff – a dry, unkempt scalp can result in flaky, dry skin, causing itchiness, and embarrassing levels of dandruff.
  • Hair loss – a lack of proper scalp care can contribute to hair loss conditions. If you are a person who looks after their hair, scalp care is as important as your daily hair routine if you’d like to keep it.
  • Oil build-up – sweat and naturally occurring oils can build up on the scalp, causing clogged pores, which could lead to cases of acne on the scalp.
  • Bad smells – the same aforementioned oils can cause very unpleasant odours to the individual, and to others in their presence.
  • Infections – bacterial and fungal infections can be caused by a lack of proper care which could lead to more serious conditions such as folliculitis (when hair follicles become inflamed) or seborrheic dermatitis (causing scaly patches, and inflamed skin)
  • Sun damage – for those of us who have already lost our hair, unprotected exposure to the sun can result in premature ageing, higher risk of skin cancer and, of course, sunburn.

There are, however, products on the market that can help alleviate these issues by aiding in the care and maintenance of the scalp. One such product is the Scalp Scrubber by CheekyGlo.

The product is specially designed to clean and exfoliate the scalp by removing oil, product residue, and build-up of bacteria and dirt. This exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and can prevent clogged pores, resulting in a healthier and cleaner scalp. Click here to learn about the mind-body connection. In fact, the exfoliation is just one of a number of advantages of using this product. Some others include:

  • Less flakiness – as already mentioned, through thorough exfoliation, dead skin cells can be effectively removed, reducing dandruff very efficiently.
  • Better circulation – scalp massaging can increase the circulation of blood, which could also stimulate hair growth in some cases.
  • Increased effectiveness of hair products – with fewer impurities on the scalp, hair products have a higher probability of being penetrated better, increasing the positive effects of such products as conditioners and shampoos.
  • Relaxation – who doesn’t enjoy a good head massage? This product can feel like having your own personal travel head masseuse at all times.
  • Ease of use – they are so very easy to use, and can easily and quickly become part of a daily or twice-daily routine either in your own time and space or even in the shower.

To summarise, those who care about healthy scalp and hair maintenance would really benefit from this product and would not regret its beneficial addition to their daily care routine.
