Most Popular Overseas Holiday Destinations for 2023

Posted on August 24, 2023 By Becky

Overseas travel has well and truly recovered after the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions. Despite pressure on household budgets resulting from sky-high inflation, British holidaymakers are still heading abroad in their millions. According to a recent survey, just under two-thirds of us are planning an overseas break for some point during the next twelve months and here’s a run-down of some of the most popular overseas holiday destinations…

Mallorca, Spain

With many Brits flocking to Gatwick airport to jet off to Spain, Mallorca can expect a sizeable number of them to visit its shores. The island offers an excellent balance between historic Mediterranean charm and poolside relaxation. Whether you’re looking for a beach holiday or some retail therapy at a luxury mall, there’s something here to suit your tastes.

Ibiza, Spain

This famous island had a reputation as a no-holds-barred party destination, but it’s since mellowed in order to appeal to older, more affluent tourists. You might spend one day exploring coves in a boat, and the next lounging on Playa d’en Bossa. Wellness resorts, shopping centres, and world-class restaurants all contribute to a wonderful tourist hotspot. And there’s still vibrant nightlife on certain parts of the island.

Orlando, Florida

This particular state appeals to British tourists for several reasons. To begin with, we should consider the theme parks. This is the home of Disney World and Universal Studios, and it could keep you and your family busy for weeks. Then there are the sprawling Everglades, which is home to some of the country’s most important wildlife.

Ideally, you’ll want to avoid making the trip during hurricane season, which runs through late summer. Bear in mind also that summertime means that the theme parks will be much, much busier.

Kos, Greece

A number of Greek islands might be mentioned, but among the most popular with Brits is Kos. This is an island with thousands of years of history behind it, and it’s home to a number of important castles and monuments. The Asklepieion was a healing temple, for example, from which you can obtain an excellent view of the surrounding forest and city.

For the best experience in Kos, cycling is easy to recommend. It will not only help you to get around; it will also provide you with a chance to see some truly spectacular woodland and some excellent beaches.

It’s the beaches that keep visitors to Kos coming back. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, from sandy to rocky, from crowded to unspoilt. If you’re prepared to do a little exploring on two wheels, then you’ll be rewarded!

When it comes to destinations, it’s fair to say that a handful of resorts and regions command the lion’s share of British tourist traffic. Most of us know what we like, and are willing to return there time and again.
