6 Quick Ways To Treat Sunburn And Reduce Redness

Posted on September 5, 2022April 29, 2025 By Becky

What’s the best thing about summer? The beachy trips, longer days, and spending time outside with friends are some of the joys that come with summers. But one thing that is inevitable during this season is sunburn. No matter how often you apply your sunscreen, you will still get burnt, and you may want to find out how to get rid of sunburn redness overnight – and quick!

Sunburns are frustrating. It can cause redness on your skin and makes you look like a human lobster. No matter where it happens on your body or how small the surface it covers, sunburn always hurts. If left untreated for prolonged periods, it can lead to major health issues like fever, headaches, nausea, vomiting, etc.

However, there is no shortcut to healing sunburn. But knowing how to get rid of sunburn redness overnight and find out some of the ways to minimize the discomfort can go a long way in helping you.

1.    Drink A Lot Of Water

The benefits of drinking water to treat skin issues are widely recognized. It keeps your body hydrated and helps maintain your skin’s elasticity.

Sunburns draw fluid to the surface of the skin and away from your body. Thus, to heal quickly, you need to regain the lost fluids and electrolytes by drinking plenty of water. Staying hydrated can minimize your symptoms and promote healing.

2.    Apply Soothing Ingredients

One of the best ways to treat sunburn is to apply a powerhouse of ingredients to the affected area.

While you may prefer to apply aloe vera first, you can use manuka honey cream that contains healthy ingredients like stearic acid, panthenol, glycerine, bisabolol, tocopherol, etc. However, if you are unaware of these ingredients, know that these work best to heal and soothe your skin.

So, using products with natural healing properties and healthy ingredients can help you relieve the symptoms of sunburn.

3.    Ditch Tight Clothing

Wearing tight clothes can hinder the healing process of your skin. As your skin is your largest body organ, you should allow it to breathe by wearing loose clothes.

For example, you can wear natural fibers such as cotton and bamboo to make your skin heal after such a traumatic injury.

4.    Keep Your Skin Moisturized

Another best way to treat sunburn is to moisturize your skin. According to experts, moisturizing your skin with aloe vera gel can alleviate some of your sunburn symptoms. Make sure to apply as often as needed.

Apart from using aloe vera gel, you can use a moisturizer and put it in the freezer before applying it to get extra relief.

5.    Take A Cool Shower

One of the easiest ways to treat sunburn is to cool down the affected area. However, it doesn’t mean applying ice directly to the skin. Instead, take a quick cool shower to reduce the inflammation. However, be wary of the pools, chlorine can irritate your skin. Also, try to avoid harsh soap, which can worsen the symptoms.

6.    Use Pain Relievers If Necessary

If your sunburn is getting painful, consider taking pain relievers. Some pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen work best to relieve the pain. Before taking any medication, it is wise to consult with a professional doctor.

Wrapping Up

Sunburns are one of the most frustrating skin issues that come with the summers. While sunburn is common, the treatment options are quick and straightforward.

To sum up, follow the tips mentioned above to discover how to get rid of sunburn redness overnight and minimize the discomfort caused by harmful UV rays. Also, make sure to stay hydrated and try to limit your sun exposure.
