How to Drastically Change the Look of the Exterior of Your Home

Posted on May 12, 2021June 28, 2025 By Becky

Have you been checking out the exterior of your home as of late and feeling like it lacks in personality, elegance, and interest? It doesn’t even have to be chalked up to normal wear and tear; the fact is that many homes lack kerb appeal and just fail to stand out. While there are certainly little tweaks you can make here and there to create small changes, you may be ready to take more drastic measures. If you want big and impactful results, here are some of the ways in which you can drastically change the exterior of your home for the better.

Make Changes to the Greenery on Your Lot

A great place to start is by taking a look at the current greenery you have on your lot. Drastic changes can involve removing overgrown trees and bushes that are actually taking away from the home, or on the flip side, it may be to extend the flower beds or plant all new ones and fill with soil, and then maybe top with some decorative gravel.

The trick is to hit that exact balance of having enough greenery that you create a lovely oasis feel to your property, but you don’t want to go overboard and allow the plants to take over and block your house. One thing you could do to help with this is incorporate a pathway of dekorstein from your driveway to your front door. It will help to provide a pleasing contrast and help the existing greenery stand out more. If you’re having a hard time finding that balance on your own, it can be useful to hire a professional landscaper to come in and take over.

Repaint The Sides

This is something that is really going to help make your home look like new. If you have not painted the sides in quite a while, then it’s definitely worth doing so if you want to make sure that you’re doing all you can for your home’s appearance from the outside. All you need to do is check out some sandtex masonry paint colours and start painting, and soon enough you are going to have a much more attractive exterior.

Re-Do the Roof and Switch Things Up

If the time is drawing near that it’s time to think about replacing your roof, this can actually act as another way to drastically change the look of the exterior. This is your opportunity to look into a different type of roofing and even change the color and texture. It’s a wonderful way to make your house stand out, and you can choose a material that really complements the style of your house.

Homeowners looking for residential roofing services can check out Mid Florida Roofing, who have experience with all types of roofing services. Give them a call to get a free quote, and they can offer ideas and suggestions on what will work with your home. This is a huge job, but that also means you get huge results.

Add a Lovely Porch or Decking

If you don’t currently have a porch or any type of decking in the front or back of your home, now is the time to change things. Adding a porch or deck creates instant charm and elegance to a home and gives you the perfect place for sitting and relaxing outdoors. Depending on how much space you have to work with, it also allows you to create that popular outdoor living type of set-up that so many homeowners enjoy. This is a case where you’ll be able to add beauty, interest, and function to the outdoors.

Each of these projects are relatively large in size and cost but that also means you can expect impactful results that are sure to make you feel much happier with the exterior of your home.
