Home Plans: A new bedroom for Freddie

I was in two minds about whether or not writing this post was tempting fate re the new house or not, but actually whether we move, or whether we stay put and then do two rooms in the loft, the big two will need their own bedrooms sooner rather than later. As boy-girl siblings sharing, and the fact they’re getting older means it’s not working quite as well as it once did, therefore I feel it’s actually perfectly okay to start putting some interiors plans for Freddie and Sasha into place! 

At 7 and a half, Freddie suddenly seems so much more grown up, and whilst he’s still wonderfully ‘young’ in many ways, his own hobbies and interests are starting to develop, and having his own bedroom and space to hang out in should reflect them. 

We’ve talked to Freddie about the kind of bedroom he might like, and let’s just say it will probably be fairly football-focused! However, as an adult who knows that kids can change their minds fairly regularly about what they like, I’d like a room that has a ‘base’ when it comes to walls and furniture, and then we can just really personalise it with pictures, prints, soft furnishings etc. 

I’m a huge fan of the ‘industrial bedroom look’, and reckon this would be cool and work well with any football/plane/dinosaur-related touches. Think: a brick-effect wall, bunk bed, wire basket shelves, neon wall light and maybe a comfy sofa/giant bean bag to hang out on if we move to new house (F would have quite a big room here).

For that cool reclaimed brick tiles effect on a large wall in the bedroom I like what UK Feature Walls stocks, in particular these Old Grey Brick Slips. 

I love how authentic they look (see example in this home office, above), and I like the grey ones because they give a slightly softer feel.

Like I said, I’d add some cool prints to the brick wall and other walls, but that’s for another styling post 😉 

What do you think of this kind of look for a boy’s bedroom? I wonder if it’s quite grown up for him, but once his toys and teddies are reinstated I think it will be a room that could grow with him?
