8 Ways To Upgrade Your Home Office & Make It Easier To Work

Posted on December 12, 2023November 29, 2025 By Becky

Working from home has hit an all-time high, and countless people are trying it for the first time. As they do, they’re starting to realise the kitchen table isn’t the best place to work from. Instead, they’ll need a home office.

You’ll already know this, but you could find your home office isn’t up-to-par. You might want to upgrade your home office or just make it nice enough to work comfortably from.

This doesn’t have to be too difficult. Instead, it’s a matter of using a few particular tips and investing in a few home office essentials. Some of these stand out much more than others. These could be worth focusing on from the start.

Eight of these could be more effective than you’d think.

Upgrade Your Home Office: 8 Top Picks

1. Get An Ergonomic Chair

You’ll already know you need a desk and chair when you’re working from home. Don’t just go for the first ones you come across. Instead, put some time and effort making sure you get the perfect ones for you. That’s especially true when it comes to your chair.

Since you’ll need to spend countless hours on it every year, it’s worth making sure it’s as comfortable as possible. It’s worth investing in ergonomics with this. It’ll make sure your back is as supported as possible, preventing any work-related back pain.

You can find these in various colours and styles, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding the perfect one for you. You’ve no reason not to spend a little on this.

2. Consider A Smart Assistant

It can be tricky to stay on top of everything when you work from home. That’s especially true when you’re running a home-based business. You’ll have countless things to get done, meetings to be involved in, and much more. It’s easy to see why more than a few people get overwhelmed with this.

A smart assistant is a great way to help with this. It keeps track of everything you want it to, and gives you regular reminders about everything. Smart assistants make managing all of your tasks and duties much easier. You’ve no reason not to invest in one, especially when you run a home-based business.

3. Install Nice Shelving

There’s a decent chance you’ll need some kind of storage in your home office. That doesn’t always mean you have the space to get some. It’s always worth getting a little creative with this, and you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. It’s simply a matter of putting up some shelving.

You can find quite a few stylish options for this, with some even being made from reclaimed wood. They can be much more appealing than you’d think, and they’ll help you keep your office organised. If you need to keep quite a few things in your home office, there’s no reason not to try this.

4. Boost Your Mood With Plants

You wouldn’t always be in the best mood when you’re working, but that doesn’t mean you’ll want your mood to get any worse. A home office often means you mightn’t get as much social interaction as you’d like. It can also just be a somewhat isolating experience.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t ways around this. Plants can have much more of an impact on your mood than you’d think. They circulate healthy air around the room while having a subconscious impact on your mood. Having one or two of them could make you feel better than you’d think.

5. Buy A Soft Light Desk Lamp

You could often find yourself working into the later hours sometimes. That naturally means you’ll need some kind of light for when you’re working. Don’t just go for anything that looks nice, however. While style plays a role in your decision, it shouldn’t be the only one.

Instead, make sure it’s a soft light desk lamp. These are much less harsh on your eyes, which is a nice benefit when you’ve been looking at a screen all day. You’ll end up having a desk lamp that looks great, but doesn’t negatively affect your eyes.

6. Try An Ergonomic Keyboard

Ergonomics don’t just apply to your chair. They also apply to your keyboard. Endless hours spent using a standard keyboard could make your hands and wrists feel sore and tired. This could happen a lot more than you’d want. It’s worth going out of your way to prevent this as much as you can.

That’s what an ergonomic keyboard helps with. It lets you give your wrists and hands a break when you’re typing. You shouldn’t have to worry about getting any aches and pains just from typing. You’ll prevent a lot more of this than you could’ve thought.

7. Use Charging Accessories

You’ll naturally use quite a few electronics when you’re working from home. Your computer and its accessories are the most notable of these, but you could also use your smartphone and other devices. Almost all of these use batteries for power, which means they’ll need to be charged at some point.

If you work with social media, you know the importance of having a decent charge on your phone. That being said, you also want a modern phone, such as the latest iPhone, to make sure you can use the latest apps and features without draining the battery.

If you try to charge them all individually, it could end up taking you too long. That’s why it’s always worth investing in charging stations for your devices. These are designed to charge several devices at a time.

By getting one of these, you shouldn’t have to worry about any of your devices losing power when you need them the most.

8. Find A New Space

Not every home has a natural space you can automatically call your office, so if you don’t have a spare bedroom or unused dining room, you might be working in the corner of another room, or even a hallway in some cases. That might feel fine at the moment, but it’s not the most productive way to do things because that space is going to be busy with other people or other things, all of which can be distracting.

In that case, it could be that loft conversions are the right option to start looking into – why not make use of space that’s currently being wasted? You’d end up with a room all to yourself where you can be as productive as possible.

Upgrade Your Home Office: Wrapping Up

If you upgrade your home office, you make it much easier and more comfortable to work from. It’s not something you need to put much time and effort into. Outside of getting the essentials, like a desk and computer, it’s worth putting just a little work into it.

You’ll get it done faster than you could think. By getting a few home office essentials and using some tips, you shouldn’t have a problem designing a home office you’ll love. It’s worth putting some time and effort into it. You’ve no reason not to.
