5 crafting ideas for spring

March is here and not a moment too soon! It’s time to throw open the windows to welcome in the warm air and sunlight and engage in activities that will help to uplift you – mind, body and soul.

If you’re creative and you enjoy using your hands, try these five crafting ideas to celebrate spring. Mark special occasions, brighten the home with seasonal décor and spruce up your garden.

Card making

There are many celebrations to be enjoyed in spring, ranging from Easter and Eid to Mother’s Day. Why not order a set of card making supplies and create a homemade card to mark each occasion? This is a great way to show your loved ones how much you care and will bring you joy in the process.

Floral wreaths

When you think of spring, one of the first things you think of is flowers. Incorporate the season’s bounty into a beautiful wreath that makes an inviting door display or impressive table centrepiece.

Before you begin, make sure you’re stocked up on all the essentials including a wreath base, fresh or fake flowers and extra accessories suited to the season such as birds, eggs and nests. You can find plenty of inspiration for spring wreaths online, with ideas ranging from traditional to contemporary.

Garden accessories

Prepare to get back out in the garden and soak up the sunshine by elevating your outdoor space with upcycled garden accessories. You can transform old containers or wooden crates into planters with just a lick of paint, seasonal flowers and a good slug of soil, and fashion a trellis to support climbers.

A simple alternative is to stand a set of stepladders in a suitable spot to display small pots and herbs.

Crochet

Seeking a smooth and peaceful start to the new season? Take the time to learn how to crochet and spend happy evenings knitting yarn together in pretty patterns that can be featured in the home as placemats, cushion covers and throws. When you’ve honed your skills, you can make your own garments tailored exactly to your style and size.

As an added benefit, well-being as the rhythmic nature of this hobby creates a ‘flow state’ that’s almost meditative, calming stress and anxiety.

Candle painting

Candle making is a popular pastime with those who are arty at heart, but candle painting might be a new one for you! It’s just what it says on the tin: using colourful acrylic paints to adorn plain candles.

Unlike some crafts that are best done solo, this activity is fantastic with friends. Gather your nearest and dearest for a fun evening decorating candles that will help to brighten up your interiors in the wake of winter.
