Scandi DIY Baubles

It may seen ridiculously early for some to be thinking about Christmas, and especially decorations, but if you get certain festive projects done now, you have more time to enjoy the season once December hits! 

I love these gorgeous scandi-inspired DIY baubles, and they will look SO ace against the blue walls in our living room. 

You will need:

• Rust-Oleum Super Sparkly Glitter in Silver
• Rust-Oleum Super Sparkly Glitter in Gold
• Rust-Oleum Rose Gold
• Ribbon
• Clear, fillable baubles (you can buy them from this Amazon store)
• Folliage

How to Make your DIY Baubles:

1. Gather up your chosen folliage and ensure it is completely dry before starting your baubles. 
2. Move the folliage to be painted to a well-ventilated space and place on top of a dust sheet or some old newspapers. 
3. Take your chosen cans of spray paint and shake thoroughly. Hold the can approximately 30cm from the surface of the folliage and spray. Apply several light coats a few minutes apart. 
4. Leave to dry in a well-ventilated place. 
5. Once dry, pop your folliage inside the fillable baubles. 
6. Tie your baubles up with colourful pieces of ribbon. 
7. Hang your baubles up on your tree or around your home. 

And then, voila!

DIY Baubles – Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of foliage works best for these baubles?
Delicate, naturally dried foliage such as eucalyptus, fern fronds, pine sprigs, or small twigs works well. Make sure your foliage is completely dry before painting to prevent mould inside the baubles.

Can I use fresh foliage instead of dried?
It’s not recommended. Fresh foliage can release moisture inside the baubles, causing condensation, mould, or deterioration over time. Always use dried foliage for best results.

Where can I find clear fillable baubles?
You can purchase them from many craft stores or online retailers like Amazon. Look for ones that click shut securely and are large enough to hold your painted foliage without squashing it.

Do I have to use Rust-Oleum spray paints?
While Rust-Oleum’s glitter and rose gold sprays provide a beautiful festive finish, you can use other high-quality spray paints as long as they’re suitable for use on foliage and dry quickly.

Can I mix different colours in one bauble?
Yes! Mixing gold, silver, and rose gold foliage in one bauble can create a layered, elegant effect. Just ensure each piece is fully dry before assembling to avoid colour transfer.

How long do the baubles last?
If stored carefully in a dry, cool place, your DIY baubles can be reused for several years. Wrap them in tissue paper and store in a sturdy box after the festive season.

Are these baubles safe for homes with children or pets?
Yes – just ensure they’re securely closed and out of reach of little hands and paws, especially if using glass baubles or small foliage pieces that could pose a choking hazard.
